It looks nearly identical to bwdo. That's why they didn't use this one.

The design they did pick it's a) taken from the comics and b) allows the character to stand out. I do wonder why they didn't go with a MCU-esque design as they've always did with other characters released in parallel with a movie (Ant Man, Eternals, Mysterio etc.), but I personally don't dislike the choice, often I much prefer the comics design with rare exceptions; I still wish Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang and Adam Warlock had a design faithful to the comics, but I guess that's just me.

P.S. While writing the comment I've realized there's another case they didn't do such thing: Domino. But I don't remember if that month's event was strictly a MCU tie-in, especially because it was a 20th Fox movie.

I stand corrected, thanks: I genuinely forgot about Shang-Chi and Joaquin Torres (weird, because I remember being surprised by the latter having the comics design as well). On the other hand, I didn't consider Leader since he was introduced way before the release month of CABNW.
Maybe he originally was scheduled for the original release date of the movie before it was postponed, and they decided to release the character anyway after a while? Idk.

Reminds me of a cross between Ghost and a BUG. Or at least totally ALIEN.

If that is really how she was in some comics, well fine (actually, not fine, but anyways), but really doesn’t convey Yelena when I look at that.

But at least we can’t have the arguement between whose eyes are GREEN versus BLUE if they are covered up here. Aka, when BWDO first came out, and was hypothesized we were really getting Yelena back at that time because game versions of BW vs BWDO had different colored eyes.

I think the reason for the extra lenses is the same as why Sam Fisher has three in Splinter Cell. "it looks cool".

Unlike the real life SOF NVGs* they use these days which are four lenses in a line, which is to give greater peripheral vision.
