Heart Of Fire. Absolutely massive swing and a miss

Let me start off by saying I'm still on the fence, but I'll probably still get Dark Phoenix as I already have pretty much all the necessary units.
My only question to Kabam is why? For what reason?
You literally had everything lined up perfectly. We were so close to perfection, you literally would have had to go out of your way (you did) to kill the hype for this entire event.
Over the course of the month, this was something the community at large was extremely hyped about; every social media platform was buzzing with speculation and advice. Community engagement was all centered around the speculation of which SIX champions would be in this crystal because that was the expectation you set (more on this in a minute), and players were grinding away, managing resources, spending money on the red and dead sale, all in preparation for this event.
From the outset, the event was advertised as 6 champions entering the 7-star pool in an event similar to Omega days from last year. Okay, let's break this down.
It was not outright stated that all 6 would be in the crystal, however, we had negative reason to expect this as the comparison was immediately made to Omega Days, an event where 6 champions (One of each class) would be in this special crystal that we could open to have a chance at all of them with some goodies in a solo event along the way.
If you were going to only have 5 champions in the pool this should have been advertised up front, immediately. It makes the community feel cheated and lied to despite not having anything explicitly promised.
To add icing on the cake, you put Galan (who should've been the 6th champ) into the titan, leading everyone to believe that we would get at least a cosmic in this event somewhere around that level, leading to even more speculation and hype around the cosmic kings which EVERYONE was excited for any one of them to come to the game finally because they are all beloved champions.
You knew, you saw the hype and the excitement in the community, you stated as much in the livestream, yet you still went through with the rug pull and patted yourselves on the back for keeping it a secret live in front of everyone. I have no idea what the thought process or expectation was with this. I'm sad that I lack the talent to be able to come up with such an underhanded left field decision to dunk on everyone and squash the hype. This should have been such a good will and exciting event for the game, but it has been squandered.
I'm not even going to get into the absolute crapshoot of the 6th champ being Dark Phoenix of all things, AND having her be a meta defender on top of that.
I'm not even mad, I'm just disappointed, frustrated, and maybe a little embarrassed for everyone for getting the rug pulled out from under us so spectacularly. We always want to give Kabam the benefit of the doubt and hope that they will do better, be better, and improve for the sake of the game, the community, and themselves and it feels like every single time we get to a point where everyone is happy and excited there's always some absolutely baffling decision coming in as a buzzer beater to steal the game away. It makes me (maybe us) feel dumb for supporting you and believing.
Screw it, just put unbuffed Groot in the crystal, at least that way we'll have a cosmic and some people will find joy in taking him up as a joke.

Dark Phoenix maybe the best champion in the game, but I’m not in the league of players that would pay for her. I think this was really poor move from Kabam to structure the event this way.
Second, Expensive trophy champs aren’t new.
Third, I am guessing at least some of the underlying angst is that Dark Phoenix looks like a potential OP meta defender. I get that the top echelons of the game, that matters much more than elsewhere. To the rest of us, it doesn’t really matter that much in the grand scheme of things.
I keep seeing “put her in the crystal” or “at least add a cosmic”… because Kabam supposedly did a super secret double wink head nod that the announcement would be different. We all got duped into the guessing game. No one lost anything else but some hype and a bit of pride. Let’s keep it in perspective. If all of the reveals were announced day one, the reactions would be far more positive, which means the end product and event design is just fine.
Honestly, I think that the most reasonable approach would have been to include both a solid cosmic for the crystal and dark phoenix as the final milestone though I believe that some people would have still complained regardless due to such a unique and potent defender being so out of reach for the majority. However, informing the playerbase in advance about this certain event design wouldn't have been the most ideal from their standpoint. It's just that the way the event is constructed is questionable at best. They should have done better.
TLDR: Should have just included a cosmic champion in the crystal as well as a trophy champion in the final milestone but well...
It's the way it was handled and presented to us that left a sour taste in everyone's mouth not the event itself.
I agree that it was a bad surprise, but most people immediately moved on to complaining about Dark Phoenix not being in the crystal and requiring 36k units or whatever....
And you also have a sizable portion of the playerbase thinking they can get her with dark plumes, or not realizing that there are two Phoenixes.
in the Titan makes him way more accessible and was a pro-player move.
I think the event is awesome and the way it’s being done is fine. It’s the fact we all believed a cosmic champ was going to be in the crystal that I think folks are annoyed. I wish one was there as I saved a cosmic AG specifically for this.
Galan should be in that pool. Idk why he isn’t. There’s still time to change this. Either keep him in the titan or don’t retire Shathra from the next crystal.
Putting Galan in the titan crystal makes him way more obtainable to everyone. These champions are not coming back around anytime soon
If it was a regular cosmic champ that was put up as a milestone, yeah , it wouldn't have made sense. But she is a special champion and makes sense that she's not in the crystal obtainable in the same way as other champions.
Omega Days was just one event. Can't expect everything that comes after it to be a carbon copy with different champions
Kabam have been doing a great job recently and there's really no reason to boycott atm
I'm not going to be sinking much cash into the Heart of Fire (in all likelihood) because it's clearly intended for those with the aforementioned big pockets, but so what? For those looking forward to it, fill your boots. For everyone else (like me) there'll be something more of interest later on.
