New Cyclops is so cool, but why does he wear a diaper

I understand his pants is like Superman and has different colors for different parts, this is OK but why does he look like wearing a diaper? The yellow part totally separates from his pants instead of being part of it, it is so strange.

The trunks aren't part of the trousers any more than any other superhero with this style of outfit EG Superman or Batman. They were supposed to evoke circus strongmen who wore a unitard and trunks over the top.
