First time in the Gladiator Circuit and I do not understand the Matchmaking

Honestly not complaining (well, not entirely) — just trying to understand how GC matchmaking works.
This BG season is my first time making it into GC. And I’ve noticed the matchmaking seems to be very mismatched. Maybe that’s intentional. So I guess that’s my question. Is GC a matchmaking free for all where tiers and rosters aren’t considered when matching?

    It's only the rating you have that is considered. Here both you had around 33 points before the match, so it matched you.
