Since Dark Phoenix (who already had counters) just got announced a hard counter.

And since July 4 now can give you Torch (whereas HOF only gave iBom) if you saved your units instead of using them on HOF

Serpent/Bullseye took how long to get proper counters in BGs? And we got a hard counter to Phoenix announced literally right after the HOF event ended. At this rate, people are going to end up taking her out of their deck similar to when they took Peni Parker out when Hulkling and Galan entered the contest

I think this post is a little extreme. I used mostly in game units that I grinded for on HoF. I’m not regretting it whatsoever for several reasons.

1. It will be several months before people can consistently get their hand on Nico. And some will get unlucky and not pull her at all. Also, I’ve had matchups where the “counters” people advertised still didn’t work against my DP. Whether that is due to skill issue or the champ still being great, idk, but she gets me wins regardless. Also, I can just ban Nico, problem solved 😂.
2. I’m not getting these champs just because of one game mode. BGs is not my favorite game mode. By far. I enjoy it sure, but I value champs in a much broader spectrum than that. DP and the other HoF champs have put in immense work in Everest content, AW, and will be immensely helpful in 9.3 and beyond.
3. And this is the most important reason. I like playing the champs. This is a game after all, and I won’t pursue a champ if I don’t like playing them. I have enjoyed every champ I got during HoF and am having fun with the champs.

TLDR: No regrets and I’m certainly not removing her from BG deck anytime soon

Kabam is already shoving TAG required 7* Everest content and this guy (me) is hoping to have answers. The more 7* I have, the better chance of completing future content. I don’t have any expensive hobbies other than this game. My skill and memory retention isn’t very high, so BG’s in a high rank isn’t my thing. I just like playing different champs whenever I can. Dark Phoenix will have her shining moments.

If they make him locked to the summoners market and not available with units, that would be the death of this game as it'll set a precedent for them to keep doing this with champs like Hulkling, Scorpion, Kate etc.

The last couple livestreams had the community frustrated as is with the numerous paywall gated champs but locking the top champs to $600+ is on a completely different level of absurd

I won't take her out of my deck even after that personally, and I don't regret spending to get her either. She's still closer to Serpent level than Maestro level because that final nova flame is unavoidable so having her in your deck is still worth it, a lot of champs can kill her no doubt about that but very few can do it with little health loss. Also she's good on offense, not the quickest but she can take Red Skull Arcade and FAM pretty well, time really doesn't matter as much as it did before anyways so 55-60 secs is acceptable these days as long as you finish full health.

I do agree with the Torch part tho, he will most likely be one of the final milestones unlike Red Guardian who you could get for about $300 and then the second copy was if you went all in on the event. They're taking it a little too far, I was pissed about Dark Phoenix (yes I know I got her doesn't change my views on the whole thing), I will definitely be pissed about Torch too. These champs aren't just some meh or decent champs, they're easily at the top of the meta they can't be making them this exclusive it's not fair especially since we won't see them anywhere else for the next year or two.

I got the 2 champs I wanted + abombx2... No FOMO or regrets so far. Might come way later on who knows. People tell me how lucky I was on getting Longshot on Omega Days, maybe somewhere in time I regret not pushing harder on HoF.

Yeah no it wont maybe it will be for you but it surely wont be the down fall for everyone this gtds them even more revenue and you can expect this to happen in the future they have already set this precedence with both newly released champs and exclusive champs

I personally don't not touch my units unless its during banquet ( I find it the most rewarding).

Its kinda a ramp up and cashout typa thing for me. Accumulate throughout the year and spend it all during banquet (whether its good or terrible)

Torch will be available in crystals in 2 years. Dark Phoenix wont be. That why I dont regret getting dark phoenix.

If the general industry percentage in f2p games of paying users is 1% - 5% of total active, and we're talking at least 300k who touched battlegrounds this last season, that's at worst 1 paying user = 100 non-paying, which I'd say is low. Typically companies try their darndest to convert nps into paid, rather than run them off and hurt their feelings, but here we are. However, not all payers are equal, and you run a real risk of alienating the middle class of game spenders who don't see a ROI they're happy with. We're seeing it IRL, so it'll be interesting to see how aggressive the company chooses to be in this global economy.

Three or four years ago, it meant a handful of well-timed Odins and some other occasional purchases that made a meaningful difference to my roster and also spared me from arena, which I despise.

Today, $500 feels like table stakes when I’m in a good mood; when I’m feeling less positive about the game, it seems like a meaningless amount that gives negligible benefits above simply going ftp.

No. Because I have enough units to cover both for grinding arena a year+ and skipping most everything but banquet for alliance goals. And if torch isn’t available for units, I will probably look at just doing 18k instead of 36k units.

So no regrets having dark phoenix along with everything other HOF champ duped (but Apoc. Yes I got lucky).

And I say all that to say - these types of posts are made with the intent to shame whales and mock them. And for what? Mostly envy I guess, but it paints with a broad brush because a lot more people benefited from HOF than those that drop big cash all at once. I am a scrub summoner who spends 90% of the game just hitting arena milestones to chill at the end of the day… not stressing high end war, not touching celestial, nor knocking out epoch in 4 revives. Take it up with Kabam if you don’t like how champions are released, The people getting them aren’t the problem.

You know that thing people make fun of old people for? When they say back in the day Gas used to cost 25 cents a gallon...
I was a heavy spender, then started to slowly cut down cause I didn't like the direction the game was taking. Now I realized that 4-5 hundred bucks doesnt even buy me half of what the top event prize is... Could I spend more? Sure but why when I don't like the direction the game is taking..
They just made it easier to lower spending to a bare minimum of some sporadic micro buys.

You think so? His dupe really isn't that important compared to RG's... But I really have no idea what Kabam will do. They've been experimenting all year, and admitted as much.

I don't think I'll ever get over that. I wanted her since the first time she was added to the game. Spent over 7000 Units, give or take, and didn't get a 6*. I didn't even pick the game up for a couple weeks. Life goes on, but that was way too overboard for cost.

Firstly ibom wasn't the only champ in the HoF as you're well aware. Secondly both serpent and bullseye had existing counters in game straight away on release and now they both have numerous counter and guess what? They are both still in everyone's deck every season. A defender having a counter doesn't suddenly make them irrelevant.

And thirdly, two types of players got dark phoenix, spenders and arena grinders. The spenders will still get torch as they will max out July 4th anyway. The arena grinders made the calculated choice that HoF would better for their accounts at that time than j4 would be and I'm sure they are still happy with that decision. You sound like you're neither of those and are still bitter about it.

Had they known they may not have went all the way in HoF. For instance, i got all the champs 200 points in (halfway). I couldve saved the rest of my units for torch.

I arena grind so I can participate in the big events. I was grinding for j4 until they dropped the HoF. Then I switched to do that as the champ pool was too good to miss out on.

It's calculated 'at that time' (the important part of what I said btw) because you weigh up the pros and cons of your decision.

Even with torch added. The decision is/was 6 exclusive champs (4 of which are top meta champs) that will be locked out for everyone else for a year plus vs 1 champ for 36k units.

I'd still make the same choice today.

I can live with occasionally having to ban or throw a round to torch. It's far more difficult having to do it the other way

Puts my exact feelings into words here.. I spend a a few hundred quid every few months, and when I checked my total paid to Google pay (I only buy for this game) it's close to £12000.. and this year like this poster has said, dropping a monkey (£500 if you don't know) feels like a huge risk, when previous years it was highly impactful, and in hof for me 7k units plus all the milestone units got me 0 7 stars, except the guaranteed 7 star from the milestones.. these past few events have left me with an extreme taste of regret, and I don't know how longer I feel I can put up with this..
I've said before my roster has always been relevant and I've always found M2 to be my sweet spot on bgs.. hof put me so far behind.. this has never happened before
