Clarification— existing relics vs next gen relics

Kabam, can you please clarify whether our existing relic crystals / shards, embers and alloys can be used to acquire / rank the next generation of relics that were announced on the livestream?

I imagine many players’ are sitting on shards, waiting to see if they can use the shards on new relics instead of duping what we currently own. Lots of us have all the current relics at every rarity.

If the current materials don’t apply to the new relics coming in August, it would be very helpful to know. Someone on the forums has claimed that is the case, but I don’t believe they cited any communication from the Kabam team…

I second this. I only have all of the 4*s but short just one of each 3* and 5*, so I rather wait and see if I should save the stockpiled shards I have to get the new champs or go ahead chase the missing relics.
