Foreword

Hey all, and welcome to another Changelog for Season 59 of Alliance War! We’re coming off BIG THINGS and returning to our regular scheduled programming. What this means is that the map will be returning to what players are used to, and along with that, we have a new Tactic coming down the pipe to both aid Champions in bringing new challenges to the Alliance War battlefield, and to equip them to answer those challenges. Not only that, but we have some new developments to talk about in how the pool is being developed this time around, and how we plan to handle Whitelists for the next two seasons. So without further ado, let’s walk through the changes for this coming season!

White List Changes

We are experimenting with White List Changes to help address the bloat within the Tactic Champion Lists (which have started to approach nearly a third of all champions in the game and also affect Saga Champion Lists). We’ve reduced the Saga Champion Count to 47 to better highlight these Champions with the Alliance War Tactic and throughout the Fantastic Force Saga. However, this does create another design problem: how will this new list fare on the Alliance War map when Strategic Champion Bans combine with clever placement to create particularly nasty roadblocks?

That’s where the White List change comes in. Because within Tactics so far, some Attack Champions hardly get used because of Blacklisting and well-targeted Bans, players often cannot use their roster investments for Alliance War, defeating the purpose of their inclusion in the pool in the first place. As part of our experiments in freshening up the Alliance War experience, we wanted to try out some new logic in how we use White Lists from Season to Season. We’re experimenting with Whitelisting all Attack Tactic Champions Season 59-60 to see how it works and how it affects the overall AW Meta and Champion Rosters for participating Alliances.

Once we compile the feedback and see what the metrics look like, we’ll see what the next steps are.

Defense Tactics

New Season, new Tactic! With the return to the larger, more complicated Map in Season 59, we want to continue the tradition of simplifying the Tactic and let these challenging nodes breathe. For the next two seasons, be ready to deal with our new Defense Tactic, FRIGHTFUL, and the new Attack Tactic, FANTASTIC!

Defense: FRIGHTFUL
FRIGHTFUL - 1:
  • If the Defender has the #Frightful tag, every 3 seconds the Attacker is inflicted with a Power Detonation Passive lasting 15 seconds, dealing 10% of the Defender's Base Attack when they expire.
    • Note - Power Detonation deals Energy Damage upon expiring naturally. This effect is removed if the affected Champion uses a Special Attack.
FRIGHTFUL - 2:
  • If the Defender has the #Frightful tag, every 3 seconds the Attacker is inflicted with a Power Detonation Passive lasting 12 seconds, dealing 20% of the Defender's Base Attack when they expire.
FRIGHTFUL - 3:
  • If the Defender has the #Frightful tag, every 3 seconds the Attacker is inflicted with a Power Detonation Passive lasting 10 seconds, dealing 30% of the Defender's Base Attack when they expire.
