Blacklists should be dropped before they are being introduced

This is clearly a pro - whale move. Imagine not being able to use a champ for entire month. Whales can rank up other options easily but ftp/casuals will suffer, especially if, let's say dthanos is blacklisted and he is your only r4(totally possible).

And whitelists, what kind of players can rank up champs just for one season, yes you're right, whales

If they want to make stuff competitive, then implement blacklist/whitelist above mysterium. I don't remember a single soul asking for this and I know it's early to hate something that's not even released, but the cons are too heavy for this one.

As if Bgs wasn't already insanely whale dominated and extremely luck reliant, why does a war feature need to be added in bgs? An alliance has 30 members and those blacklists/whitelists don't matter as much as it will in bgs, its purely luck dependent to own a whitelisted champ and have them ranked and its horrible when a champion you just r4 is blacklisted for the entire season? thats just much worse for FTP and even most whales won't like this, this is the worst "testing" feature so far please do not implement this.

There's already so many insanely annoying defenders roaming around with minimal counters, lower rated/FTP/unlucky players can just ban those defenders, what about players who don't own the whitelisted defender or if a good attacker/counter is blacklisted for the entire season, its just really annoying and unnecessary addition to bgs, its absolutely fine and makes sense in war but bgs does not need a more stressful addition, point decay is already going to be interesting but that makes sense considering the current state of bgs.

This also just makes ranking champions more tedious because you never know which champion is going to be banned which makes r4 and r3 decisions more annoying. What do you guys think about this?

Gonna be a contrarian and say I don’t mind the blacklist in theory. I quite like the idea of being able to have more diverse and wacky metas while being able to blacklist the standout champs that centralize the attacker/defender sphere too much, things like having this GC’s invade meta but maybe blacklisting Bullseye who sorta auto-wins as a defender if you don’t draft one of 5 champs in the game. Similar idea for that Extend meta a while back; that was kinda fun until you ran into Serpent, it’d be nice to do that again with him perma-banned. The matter of the fact is that there’s too many champs in the game for there to not be some sort of degenerate interaction if you want any nodes more complex than basic attack and health modifiers.

Of course, I say in theory because none of this really matters if the blacklist isn’t used smartly and I’m not exactly counting on that being the case. But I am willing to be cautiously optimistic about it until Kabam actually f’s it up in practice.

Whales have the resources to rank up a lot of champions, if they ban their defender they’ll just rank up another one
The rest can’t do that, if the ban their defender we’ll have to use someone at a lower rank

But see what about lower plays like me? Not everyone has a huge roster or an insane amount of resources. I rank up a champ with Story mode and BGs in mind but now there's a possibility that my top champs are condemned to story mode. In theory this sounds like a great idea but in paper this could kill BGs.

It's so infuriating that battlegrounds has become the "fight zola, enchantress, bullseye and serpent over and over and over" gamemode. I missed when I had to be prepared for a wide array of defenders, not just the hardest 6-7 in the game over and over.

I assume they will treat it like they do in AW (well, used to, I think this AW season is different) where the most banned champs are Blacklisted for a season and then go on the Whitelist for a season. The odds that new champs will be banned more than those that most everyone has are not high.

I think the biggest question is how many champs go on the list? If it's 3 or so I think most people will be fine taking a break from some combination of the normal bans every other season. If it's more than that it could be annoying.

The chances of you having the same defenders ranked up as them are higher if they're older tho, if they ban the newer defenders only whales have then that's a good thing no matter how you spin it, and since this is GC the chances of you, an endgame player, not having most of the staple defenders that have been out for over 6 months are very low. Even I have most of them and I took a 5 month break last year.
Let's say they ban Yelena Zola and Dark Phoenix, you most likely already have Serpent Photon Onslaught Enchantress etc ranked up. Also, whales already have these defenders ranked up anyways, blacklisting won't be a bad thing as long as they're banning the tough newest champs only whales have access to. Now if hey banned Serpent Photon and Enchantress and left Yelena Zola and Dark Phoenix unbanned then that would be a problem but I doubt they'll do that, we'll have to see.

I really don't like the idea of a whitelist or blacklist for BGs, and I have a massive roster.

I'd much prefer see a shift to how drafting and bans are done rather than a whitelist / blacklist.

Increase to the deck size.
Increase to the total drafted champions.
Standard pre-draft bans remain (maybe drop these to two instead of three).
One ban added to the middle of the draft.
One additional ban if the match gets to round three - this would clearly be a ban of the remaining drafted champions.

I know it would make the draft stage longer, but I feel like it would add some layered strategic planning to BGs that we don't really see.

I agree and I think it’s also an indictment of the metas design and structure of BG in general. They (presumably) want us to use more / different champs. But rather than do something creative with the meta or create some other incentive, they just use the blunt force solution of a blacklist. Not great.

I normally don't like the changes people suggest, but this one actually seems really intriguing to me and would like to see how it would actually play out if done.

For all the complaints here about the blacklist benefitting whales, surely increasing deck size is the absolute most straightforward way to give whales the edge, they almost definitionally have a bigger roster than the rest of us and have the resources to stack the deck in their favor. Having 30 champs in fighting form is already a bit of an ask for the average player, increasing that just increases the strain on newer players to join the mode and pushes the middle of the pack in a more awkward spot, especially since to be BGs fit you need more than just a static 30.

I also don’t see any world where mid-match bans make things more strategic rather than less; you’re telling me I gotta save TWO counters for each defender ready in my draft in case I hit round 3 and my opponent bans the only counter I have to their defender? I understand this suggestion is concurrent with one that suggests increasing the number of drafted champs but I don’t like the idea of having to pick multiple Serpent counters just on the off-chance I get to round 3 and my opponent wisely bans my one counter, except in having two Serpent counters in my draft I’ve got less room to do the same with my opponent’s Bullseye or Zola so I haven’t actually escaped the situation unless I do this with EVERY defender the opponent drafts.

I think the blacklist could be beneficial if done well. It would be great if enchantress was blacklisted on some of the recent power gain metas.
