I finished last season at Diamond III. Why am I starting this season at Gold 1?

You don’t start right where you ended. You start 9-10 tiers below, I’m not sure what the number is now but someone else can confirm.

(Except if ended in GC, is that starting point 9 or 10 levels ? depending whether you consider Vibr 1 as same as GC level or not ?)
