A couple points. First, it doesn't cost $1.25 in labor. Everything costs money in the game, in one form or another. Especially when you consider the investment to put something like this on.
Secondly, this is for one person in the game. I don't think we need to worry about game balance.

As an audience I think we want to see the winner pick their max champ and also get hundreds of thousands of units and see how they spend it (assuming they make a video about all this).
What's the fun of seeing people get cash? If cash was important to these contestants, they wouldn't be in the brawl to begin with....

Personally I think that’s an amazing prize. It affords the event winner the opportunity to max out multiple upcoming events like cyber deals, 4th of July, banquet etc for at least 2+ years. I’d be over the moon to have 250k+ units sitting in the Kabam bank. What’s all the fuss about?
