Can't get grit passive against Gentle - middle pod

Any help would be appreciated because I think this is a bug, but I could be missing something. I never get the grit passives using Tiagra even though the gray counter goes down. Punishing heavies, sp1, or sp2 - none work.
Excuse the poor play, but I was just frustrated and wanted to make a quick video. You can see punishing heavies does nothing. I mess up the first sp1, but get nothing after the second. Not shown in this video, punishing sp2 and punishing sp1 traditional way (without Tiagra miss) does nothing.

You’re not working towards your role boost. Completing the boss prompt only awards you 1 raid fervor of the 50 needed to trigger Grit on its own, it’s the role boost that gives you up to +30 raid fervor each time.

In your case, it looks like you’ve got Vicious Placebo. You need to land combo-ending attacks (2nd medium or 4th light) to nullify the Placebo Buffs you’re inflicting and gain Viciouses, which are what grant you +6 Raid Fervor each. In the video, you didn’t land a single combo-ender, which means no Viciouses = no Raid Fervor = no Grit.

I suppose I should also add that without gaining raid fervor, you’re also losing out on role force (the thing that makes you do big numbers) and you aren’t building role charges for your alliance mates so they can do the same. Making sure you’re properly using your role boost is critical, so take the time to familiarize yourself with doing so.
