I feel like i’m the only person not upset about “Doom Cycle”

the simplest logic is often the answer. The “new mode” opens to an external browser and the Fantastic Four movie is coming out. That kinda tells me someone from an office many floors higher than the game team made them put this in. most likely for data collection, to test a new game they’re gonna launch, and/or promotion for the movie. some mix of those three things. if i had to guess someone had this made and they wanted it thrown in in time for the movie.

i think our guys knew everybody would hate this. why ? Think about it Kabam will sell you everything under the sun, but for this they gave away a FULL titan AND units? just to play this slog ? $10 pretty much gets you through the entire thing. One thing i’ve realized about this company is if they can sell something, they will. but they went ultra light on the monetization and threw in a full titan. Meanwhile in game they’re selling 150 titan shards for what ? 150 units i think.. (math check)

the external browser is another piece of evidence that tells you somebody else made this mode and decision. if not why not just add it in with the rest of the stuff? the launcher is in a tiny little box under the SDE. no big tab under the Fight screen.. if i wasn’t watching Vega’s stream when it dropped i would have had no idea where to find it. just a little tab, an external browser and a free titan. that’s not the Kabam/MCOC we know.

I’m open to the idea that this is just a miss and i’m trying to make sense out of it nonsense. but this doesn’t follow their usual steps to horrible decisions.

Before everybody jumps down my throat, i don’t care about Kabam. I play the game for fun. I spent modestly. i haven’t touched the mode after the first day because.. i just don’t want to 🤷🏾‍♂️ i think that covers all the usual talking points so let’s have a good conversation.

TLDR; The big bosses made this mode happen, our guys knew we would hate it and gave out some pre-compensation in the form of a Titan and Units.

Yea i didn’t really care for it too much. The first time i played it i was like, well this is different lol.. but i knew i wouldn’t do it again. But it didn’t make me angry or anything. Just something i didn’t wanna do. I’m also not an end game player. Just a casual low-tier Valiant that plays for fun.

Idk, I’m not getting out the pitchforks and torches, but I really don’t like the game mode. It’s super passive and I don’t enjoy being limited to three entries a day without spending. But after getting some masteries put into torch, he can clear everything I need him to. It all feels like a chore. Not a big fan

I do agree with the point about being limited to three entries a day, definitely the worst part of the game mode for me.

I said it earlier on some thread...
If I could spend 21 entries (weekly) on a Sunday evening sitting in the garden sipping tea.... I wouldnt mind it.

But they went with enforcing daily play.
That's one of the worst predatory tactic.
We area already doing dse every day, bg objetives every two days, Wars every 2 days.
Give us a break, let us live.

I like the animation and art.
Not a fan of fighting modes where I don't get to fight.

That’s definitely true !! I would love to be able to knock it all out in a day or two. But the 3 daily entries thing was a big turnoff for me

I didn’t read your wall of text, but judging from the title, I’m also not mad at it. I liked the mode and the awards!

I'm cool with it. I'm not enthralled, but it's cool. I just hate the load it places on my phone. The heat is real. Lol.

i swear 😂😂 after about 20 minutes of playing i was like damn this is baking my phone. broke down and spend the $10 because the rewards are really good.but yea, the anger around it has been insane.

I agree. I’m really not bothered by this mode. Yeah, it’s not super fun, but it also doesn’t take that long. If it didn’t have good rewards, I wouldn’t be playing it, but I’m not going to complain about practically free rewards.

I'm surprised that so many people have a problem with it. It's so benign! It's got some simple, retro appeal, but even if I didn't care for it, it's easy and the rewards are high enough to offset any effort. This is a game where people will grind arena for hours and hours to get units that will maybe go towards a fraction of the rewards that the Dimensional Arcade outright gives you if you spend a few minutes on it every day.

I just wish I could stop it using the special attack until I say so - or set a metric or something...the number of frigging times ol' Jonny Storm has thrown his special into a single doombot when the round started with 4 and the next round is a Boss...? Gah!

You're not alone, it's just that the people complaining about it have been extremely vocal about it whereas those of us who liked it or don't feel any type of way about the mode because it doesn't really do any harm or annoy us haven't been vocal about it.
Always been a fan of retro style games like this one because it's what I grew up playing and I just see this as a mini game basically, definitely not something to lose sleep over especially since all rewards are claimable without spending a single dime, the extra tickets are just optional if you don't feel like waiting or grinding every single day for a month.

I don't like it, too boring, just play for bonus
  • PT_99PT_99 Member Posts: 6,402 ★★★★★
It's fun, maybe 5 times, 10 at worst.
But when we have to repeat it 25+ times, it's boring, very boring, some might say it's a chore.

Kabam needs to learn that less is more with new game modes.

    That gambling deck mode?
It was fun for 1st week,
now? It's disaster, doesn't help when top prize is another Mid 7* hero called Devolutionary.

I'm enjoying it, can understand why people don't and it's not perfect but im having a good time with it

I’m now 30+ runs in on the shatter room, and I can’t understand how anyone can think it’s still fun at this point.

Thank god it auto plays because I’d be losing my mind out of boredom otherwise.

So the game is about collecting champs, ranking them up, investing resources on them, even money for some players, and the new over hyped game mode is all about not using those champs? Yeah seems pretty dumb to me.
Wasn't King Arthur a similar turn based game style with better graphics and story and flopped?...

Yes, but people would finish this mode in a day without limited entries
    🤣

The main problem is that it's a serious slow burn that only really comes into its own until the Shatter mode opens up, so I have no idea who thought it would be a good idea to put a three-round limit during the Story mode when everything was boring as heck no matter where you put the mastery points.

    Basically:

Day 1: This is novel, but kinda boring.

Day 2: Yeah, this is boring. Less novel now, though.

    Day 3: Boooooring.

Day 4: At least I'm out of the story. Huh, I've gotten quite a mastery few points by now.

Day 5: Okay, I begin to see what the point of this game mode is.

    Day 6: Am I...having fun?

The secondary problem is that the four characters come, basically, without any abilities of their own from the outset. I spent a lot of points in the Teamwork tree since those benefit every character, but that meant that all of them felt very samey. I feel like the game mode could have really benefit from a deep dive. Not necessarily one for each champion, but a single "here's how these guys work and what they do and how they differ from one another" video.

The third problem is that the individual characters can become so OP that it's usually better to simply invest into a single champ than it is to spread out points between the lot of them. I'm fairly certain that I could simply start a Shatter run with Invisible Woman and then just go and make dinner or something while she steamrolls all eight rounds. There's no need for me to play that little special attack mini game or to choose boosts, because she'll crush everything no matter what.

I think there is potential in the game mode and I don't think it's something that some poor sap at Kabam had to do in an afternoon just because their bosses wanted something new for whatever reason. However, I think we've basically been beta testing both this mode and the poker one this month. Which is fine, but it would be nice to know that this is a beta test since I tend to give more grace to those types of tests than when I play finished products.

It just feels as if we're mostly testing out a very bare-bones version of both new modes, that will both hopefully be expanded upon in the future when they launch properly. At least I hope that's the case, because I've found both quite lacking in terms of genuine engagement from me. I can see the vision for both modes, but just hope there's ultimately more to it than I've been allowed to partake in up until now.

Yeah .... resources still have their expiration timers and max limits, despite the fact that this month's excursions that don't use any of those resources.

I have revives in overflow that normally would have been used in regular July SQ or a regular July SoS type content. Not to mention catalysts that normally could have gone to ranking up a champion to specifically handle a Boss rush or something, is instead just sitting there waiting to expire or make me take up a random champion.

I know these are all first world type complaints, but functionally, all the work I did to keep my account topped off are wasted because they have no function in either the Arcade or Doom Cycle.
