Dev Diary: Questing, Prestige, and Alliance Updates
Greetings Summoners!
As part of our continuing goal of bringing new and innovative experiences to The Contest, we aim to make The Battlerealm more dynamic, rewarding, and fun for Summoners of all levels.
Today, we dive into a trio of updates coming to Marvel Contest of Champions in September 2025, and we can’t wait for you to jump into the new Adaptive Difficulty Event Quest, the revamped Alliance Weekly Super Event, and explore the Daily Quest Rework. These changes are designed to streamline gameplay, reward teamwork, and offer challenges tailored to your progression. Let’s break it all down.
Adaptive Difficulty Event Quest
We’re revitalizing the monthly Event Quest with the introduction of Adaptive Difficulty.
Starting in September, we’re moving away from the traditional six difficulty tiers (Contender, Proven, Conqueror, Cavalier, Uncollected, and Thronebreaker) to a single, dynamic difficulty that scales to your roster and progression level.
Here’s how it works -
Personalized Scaling: The Adaptive Difficulty Event Quest adjusts its challenge based on your account’s progression (Cavalier, Thronebreaker, Valiant, etc) and Top 30 Prestige.
Our aim is to ensure the quest feels appropriately challenging, whether you’re a new Summoner or a seasoned veteran. We believe that by consolidating the six difficulties into one, we’ll be providing a streamlined Event Quest experience that will appropriately scale as you progress your account through the Battlerealm. Rewards will also scale with the difficulty, ensuring higher-progression players earn rewards commensurate with their roster strength, while newer players still get meaningful progression items without feeling the need to do multiple difficulties.
This change allows us to craft richer, more focused Event Quests that deliver a cohesive narrative and gameplay experience tailored to YOU. We’ve heard your feedback over the years that our monthly content feels stale, and Adaptive Difficulty is our solution for more engaging and always up to date Event Quests.
Speaking of that, we also heard your feedback on our Valiant Event Quest Test Runs.
If you’re PARAGON & ABOVE, you’ll be able to toggle on the new ELDER Difficulty, unlocking a more challenging version of the Event Quest that closely mirrors the structure of the first iteration of our Valiant EQ test. Elder Difficulty is meant to make our monthly content feel impactful even to our most engaged players. The first iteration will likely look familiar to you, and we may experiment with other formats in the future.
Why the Change?
With Adaptive Difficulty, we’re able to allocate more resources to creating unique nodes, memorable boss fights, and exciting story beats. Instead of splitting our design efforts across six static difficulties, we’re pouring our energy into one quest that adapts to your skill and roster. Get ready to face the latest threats of the Battlerealm in a way that feels personal and rewarding.
Prestige Going Forward
On the topic of Top 30 Prestige, starting in October, Alliance Quest and Alliance Raids will transition to a Top 30 Prestige System, moving away from the current Top 5 Champion and Relic Prestige model. Going forward, your Top 30 Champions and Top 30 Relics will combine to account for your Top 30 Prestige.
This change aims to streamline Prestige across the Battlerealm, offering a broader and more inclusive approach to roster strength in these game modes. Alongside this update, we're wanting to make managing prestige a lot easier. There will be a top 30 prestige view, and you will also be able to sort your roster by prestige.
We’ll dive deeper into the details of this shift and what it means for your Alliance in its own dedicated post coming soon!
Alliance Weekly Super Event
The Alliance Weekly Super Event is here to replace the Summoner Advancement and Engagement events, which kicked off on August 11 and will run weekly going forward.
Key Features:
Similar to the Daily Super Event, the Alliance Weekly Super Event offers rewards earned through collective alliance activities like Alliance Quest, Alliance War, Battlegrounds, and Incursions. The higher your alliance’s milestone, the better the rewards, including T7B shards, Glory, and more.
The Alliance Weekly Super Event will be utilizing Peak Milestone rewards, meaning rewards are distributed based on the highest milestone your alliance achieves by the end of the week.
While units have been shifted to the upcoming Daily Quest Rework (more on that below), the Alliance Weekly Super Event includes valuable resources to fuel your journey in the Battlerealm.
We’ve seen some community concerns about the absence of certain rewards like energy refills, revives, and boosts in the initial Alliance Weekly Super Event rollout. We definitely understand those concerns in particular because the Daily Quest Rework was initially slated to launch alongside this update where you’d have seen the majority of these rewards allocated throughout. That being said, we’re actively listening to your feedback and working to ensure this event feels as rewarding as intended.
Daily Quest Rework:
Starting in September, the Daily Quest Rework will transform your daily gameplay into a more rewarding experience. We’re replacing the current class-based Catalyst quests with a new structure focused on variety and accessibility. These are meant to be auto-playable content, and are a great way to kick off your Daily Super Event earnings.
What’s Changing?
Daily Quests will now have two always active quests, one geared toward resources (Gold, ISO-8, etc.) and the other on Catalysts of all tiers, including lower-level ones for newer (or nostalgic) players.
We’ll also be introducing our Supply Run Daily Quests. These run Monday through Saturday, with each day offering different materials. Units previously earned through Alliance Events have been moved to the Daily Quests so you’ll need to use energy to access these rewards, but we’ve balanced the costs to keep them fair. Completing a Supply Run will earn you a Supply Intel that you can use to enter the Super Version of this Supply Run Quest on Sundays. It will take 4 Supply Intels to enter, and the Sunday Run is extra juicy - so make sure you’re playing these!
This rework aims to make Daily Quests a consistent source of progression resources while giving you more control over what you prioritize each day. Whether you’re hunting for 7 Star Sig Stones or stocking up on Gold, there’s something for every Summoner. With the addition of Supply Run Daily Quests and the Super Run on Sundays, every quest offers greater value than ever before, ensuring your time in the Battlerealm yields richer rewards to accelerate your roster’s growth.
Addressing Energy Refills in the Alliance Weekly Super Event:
We want to be transparent about a change to the Alliance Weekly Super Event that’s tied to the introduction of Adaptive Difficulty in Event Quests. Previously, the Alliance Events included energy refills to support tackling multiple Event Quest difficulties. With the shift to a single Adaptive Difficulty Event Quest, the total cost of energy across multiple tiers has been significantly reduced. As a result, we’ve scaled back the number of energy refills available in the Alliance Weekly Super Event to align with this streamlined experience.
As we move beyond 10 years of The Contest, it is important that we iterate, innovate, adapt and grow. That sometimes means the things we update and revamp may not always be on a 1:1 ratio or we allocate them in different areas as you’ll see with the Daily Quest Rework.
With that, we do understand energy is a hot topic - many of you have voiced concerns about energy costs and caps, and we hear you loud and clear. We hope that you’ll find value in this change and know that we’ll continue exploring ways to optimize energy usage across the game. As always, we’ll continue to monitor your feedback to ensure the Alliance Weekly Super Event and Daily Quests feel rewarding and sustainable. And of course, if you have thoughts on how we can improve, please share them on the forums or other Community spaces.
Looking Ahead
These updates mark a bold step forward for Marvel Contest of Champions. We aim to keep the Battlerealm fresh with these changes, and we’re excited to see how you engage with the Adaptive Difficulty Event Quest, Alliance Weekly Super Event, and Daily Quest Rework. We’re committed to iterating on these systems based on your feedback, so keep those comments coming in the usual spaces.
Thank you for your passion and dedication to The Contest.
