Do you actually like realm events?

I’m struggling to really see the value of realm events. A lot of the time it’s stressing and wondering if we’re even going to hit all the milestones. Sometimes we even need a bailout (think Stark Foundation or Brian Grant’s ultimate sacrifice). I’m not a fan at all and don’t really see the point of doing them. They just cause a bunch of anxiety and I feel like those rewards are just better put into the actual quest or a solo objective/event. If you do like realm events please tell me why you enjoy them. I’d love to learn to enjoy them instead of stressing out about them.

I don't really care for the events where you rely on others. I like the community to talk things over, but I don't want anything to do with alliance stuff. Realm events are just bigger alliance events. Wish they would just put the rewards in the content alone.

I love them. I think they're one of Kabam's best ideas in years (low bar, mind you…). I love the sense of a community coming together for larger rewards. I don't worry too much about whether we'll hit certain marks, at least not until maybe the last week or so. But with the exception or two events, the community has done a great job of hitting the high marks. The only thing I "stress" is how I'm doing to hit the minimum, such as right now, although I'm pretty sure I'll hit before the end.

Any time I can put in all the work required of me and miss out on rewards due to other people's amount of participation, it is a terrible feeling.

I have a feeling we are not going to get the token from the crucible event and my team sure as heck wont get the one from the relics so no matter how hard I push, Im losing out on a second selector.

They are good, just that we often need donations and compensation. Anyways as long i reach minimum contribution and get maximum rewards, it works.

IMO, they did it right with necropolis…. Arguably the worst summoner was the best summoner. It brought the community together, self deprecating and gallows humor flowed, and we all got a bunch of great stuff.

I just don't like that even though I completed the Crucible on day 1, I might not get the town because other people didn't do it.

The problem is that there's a segment of the playerbase that judges rewards as all or nothing. Anything short of the absolute maximum is a failure. For those players, the Realm events are problematic because they don't see the events as a gain of rewards, it's seen in terms of the rewards that are "lost."

I don't think most players see it that way. In fact, the numbers suggest to me that most players don't take the Realm events very seriously at all. For most players its just extra rewards.

The interesting question is the split among those engaged enough to chase the rewards: how many chases them in fun, and how many chase them compulsively. I'm honestly not sure. Me personally, I see them as an interesting gauge on the overall engagement of the players in the game. I do what I can, and beyond that I let the chips fall where they may.

That’s true. That was a fun time. One where people joked about and seriously went into Necropolis just to die. I will say that was fun and an interesting community event. Everything else just kinda felt bad. The BG event where we kept needing donations didn’t feel good because there’s a lot of people who don’t grind it seriously. I think Kabam inflates the numbers a bit too much. Even that event’s rewards layout was great. A reasonable number to get all the “good rewards” and then bonus titan shards for going above and beyond.

I think that’s how normal players would think though. Players who play this game somewhat seriously would think “I’m losing these rewards.” Do you honestly think it’s a great feeling to contribute the maximum points to a realm event and not get the rewards because you rely on other people and they don’t do it? Why is there a benefit of that versus just doing a solo event and having the rewards tied to your effort level? If I get 2,000 points for doing all the crucible objectives and I really want the awakening gem and 200 sig stones that are offered in the event, and I can’t get them because Kabam set the bar too high or not all summoners wanted to do the crucible right away, why should people who contributed be punished? I’m not quite understanding the train of thought.

The participation and performance statistics suggest the vast overwhelming majority of players of this game are not normal. But then again, five minutes on the forums or the Discord would also suggest this.

The realm event suck because there are 0 places to farm points. Why can't they make it so you gain points by playing arena. The incursions idea was good until they decided to make it a one time reward.

@Viper198787 you will be surprised with how many lower tier (not capable of maxing out points), or casual players believe that some players reach the top rewards because they helped even if you are able to put maybe twice as many points in the event

I’m not sure how you get there from either of my posts. One doesn’t say that and the other says the opposite of that. Maybe this is because you are exactly one of those people I mention that only looks at the rewards they didn’t get instead of the rewards they do get. Most players care about rewards, but they focus on what they can get not on what they can’t get. 99.99% of all players of this game do not, and cannot maximize their rewards. And yet they still play. The percentage of game players of this or every other game that are reward min/maxers, or any sort of min/maxer, is so low that to a first order approximation they don’t exist at all. And I say that as a veteran min/maxer of dozens of games.

Outside of the bastion title. Yeah it really feels like there’s no point to them. Could just put the rewards in ally or solo event milestones.

Well since best rewards are usually in the latest tiers yeah you kinda think more at what you lose instead of what you get in the early milestones, I don't even know why there's a 6 star awakening gem in one of the milestones when it's almost only valiant players doing cruicible and they certainly don't need a 6 star awakening gem and so why should I be happy for example to get a useless 6 star awakening gem and not caring that I'll miss a 7 star awakening gem? If maybe milestones were different and weren't scaling in rewards but every milestone had similar rewards then ok I can still be happy I got as much as I can and just missing out of some more of what I already got, instead of missing something extra not available anywhere else. In addition to this you know that having a situation where players blame other players for not doing the content and missing out on rewards doesn't bring the community together but does the exact opposite of it and works in contrast to the original sentiment of realm events

Completely depends on the event and how it is structured.

This Crucible event feels poorly designed (and communicated) out of the gate. Same for the Fest event, which put undue emphasis on a mode (Raids) the majority of Alliances don’t do in a meaningful way.

Necro is always put forth as an example of getting it right. A lot of that is because it engaged the vast majority of the community in a way that could produce great rewards for participants. Recent Realm events didn’t follow that formula as closely.

@DNA3000 gets it right that understanding the psychology of the players matters if the team wants to get Realm events correct.

I think player psychology has shifted a bit since the first Realm event, and I’m convinced many players are simply exhausted at the ever-increasing demands of the game. I’d suggest tapping into different layers of the community to understand what makes a Realm event appealing.
