Research Grant Trade in?

Is it only Valiant players that are able to trade in their research grants for Crystal shards? Im seeing Rich the Man being able to trade in for 7* shards, but no trade in options on my account. Not even for 6* shards

I think that option is only available after you buy a 7* (or 6*)

There were more than 100 research grant available. Prior to him trading in, i saw he got 84 grants. He did the 1 2 star arena to get the rest.
