A neutral ground in the midst of darkness
It's your favorite, most positive, most pro kabam, never been jailed, forum member back again to make a post you'll all enjoy.
On a serious note. I did want to invite genuine neutral discussion here that is removed from the stream of negative threads.
I'm going to start by saying something so controversial yet so brave. ON PAPER the changes to prestige and eq have massive potential and is interesting. But its something that needs to be handled with care.
However this is Marvel Contest of Champions, so we of course have the worst version of the idea with the worst way possible to implement it.
In theory, tying rewards and eq to prestige provides both kabam and the players with a simple means to implement and receive infinitely scaling rewards. In that system, no reward or player would get left behind.
Therefore i can see why they expanded prestige to more than 5, it would have been way too easy and fast for players to hit the maximum for rewards. But for the life of me I dont know why they jumped to 30. 10 or 15 would have made more sense for the first iteration of this. Maybe it could have moved to 30 later down the line. But off rip it was too careless.
I'm not so ignorant as to think they didn't think about this but I am however skeptical that the version of this we received is what they envisioned. Id like to have faith that this idea was more thought out and just poorly implemented.
For the eq, at minimum, they should have found a way to have the valiant eq rewards be the floor for the valiant progression.
For the eq design, it makes no sense to force players to go through a worse version of thronebreaker eq just to get to the valiant gauntlet. Kabams marketing the past few months has even been leaning into that as a positive for the valiant players. "Look at all the stuff you dont have to do!" To "now you have to do it and it's so much worse" is a really bad look.
I do also have a couple suggestions and after I'm handing the mic over to the community.
- I doubt they can reverse the top 30 prestige at this point. They're too deep in. But what they can do is adjust the scaling and thresholds. Maybe it cant happen this month but it can be done next month.
- Remove the classic difficulty requirement. You guys prided yourselves on moving away from that only to backpedal and make it worse.
- find a way to make the floor for valiants the rewards for valiant eq.
- Shuffle prestige values to make the unbuffed, almost unusal champs the lowest and raise the prestige values of champions people use relative to however prestige scales. (This one wont happen but would be nice)
Again. The potential is there and I can see the vision. But currently, it sucks. No easy way to say that. But it can get better. Kabam really should have kept this one on the stove until they were SURE it would land
