Battlegrounds - Players changing attacker

How are players choosing an attacker against my defender, hitting the submit button (I watch it accepted on the Vs screen and we advance to the prefight screen), then after the match is completed see that they’ve changed their attacker somehow after they’d already chosen a different one?

In one recent battle #3, a player chose Onslaught to fight my Onslaught, then won using Jack somehow. I would like to know how they’re changing things up after they’ve already picked. It’s not the first time this has happened so maybe I’m missing an opportunity to change my own fighter out of if I change my mind?

Am I the only one seeing this? I guess it’s cheating and I’ll report them when it happens.
