Working perfectly fine. Are you actually ranking them up, or leveling them up? Because leveling is not ranking.

I took rank 1 to 2 get me nothing

It worked fine for me - I took a couple of R1 6* Saga champs to R2 to get over the last milestone. Are you sure you ranked up the right champion(s) and * level?
