I think it’s positive that Kabam has backtracked on this.
Now I think they need to really re-evaluate the direction of the game so we don’t get the same cycle of:
-Kabam makes a change -Community hates it and voices opinion -Kabam listens to community and course corrects
This is happening far too often. It’s positive they have eventually listened, but it feels like we’re doing this dance more and more frequently. It is eroding trust and goodwill from players.
No, we did not 'win.'
They backtrack on one of the worst changes they've made in a very long line of recent snafus, bugs, issues, and bad decisions.
This is a good thing, they listened to how major this change was going to be - but they never should've thought it was a 'good' idea in the first place.
There's so much that needs to be addressed and resolved. This alone isn't going to change how I'm barely playing the game anymore.
No, we didn't win. We got but a pittance. It's great they've rolled this back, but there's a lot more to be done.
I want to remind Kabam that the community is here to have a dialogue with you to at least reach a middle ground between community enjoyment and shareholder value. We love the game, you love the game. We're passionate and dedicated, you're passionate and dedicated, and we're here.
Edit: I didn't read the first part of the announcement before writing this comment. I just went back to read the full thing, and I used almost the same language as Mike. I'm turning into one of them.
I agree with you guys. Is clear they should have nvr had the idea in the first place. At least the change was reverted
I'm hoping we as a community don't quickly give up on stating clear problems which need to be address and unite over the other glaring issues. Glad to see they added the 1 full energy refill which will roll out tomorrow. Glad they are not taking the energy refill out of the 4 hour crystal and glad at least there is going to be a re-evaluation of Elder marks, personally and I feel a lot of people would agree with me Elder Marks should remain as they help with the burden of energy spent, are specific to use in Battlegrounds, and being there gives players who don't have energy to burn or cash to spend to at least be able to participate in Battlegrounds. I agree in one sense this isn't a win as why should they ever have considered removing refills from 4 hour crystals helpful and why didn't they already include a full energy refill in the Super Daily Event. Considering how much has been added and the fact the daily quests cost so much it just feels to add a full energy refill to the last milestone in the SDE should have been obvious. Community we must continue to unite on issues which we see need correction. Let us not seek to squabble over petty differences, but instead respectfully engage where we disagree and unite to help ensure MCOC heads in a positive/healthy direction.
Woww! Didn't expect this prompt response on this but i love the response from Kabam. It's a positive change towards right direction for sure. Thank you @Kabam (Osaurus) Rex for acknowledging the community love for this game and implementing important changes quickly.
A step in the right direction on a 150 story building. It's a start.
Great news, A+++.
Ok good. I mean, I have no reason to use them anymore, but still… I don’t have a way to end that sentence.
Well, they get paid $200k+ a year and post on the forums as part of their job, whereas you're a forum lifer with nothing better to do. So no, you ain't turning into one of them, lol.
Oh so the Beta in your name refers to Beta male. Nice to know
Glad they are rolling this back, but more steps need to be done. But there’s no denying this is a huge W.
Well, it’s better than it was 24-48 hours ago. Glad for the change …. Wish we didn’t have to get wrecked in game for a couple weeks and have a everyone set on fire before someone realized this probably wasn’t the best course of action.
one small step for the average player brother
though the energy change is good, it might not be enough to keep me around. The last couple weeks were kinda nice not caring much about what I was missing in the game. Might just stick to not caring and get out altogether…
I consider this a win, don’t know why they tried to mess with… but I’m even more glad about the solo raids… maybe now we just wait to see if we can do elder without doing classic first
Yes, we won. We asked and were heard. All topics on the energy issue were resolved. And partly on the monthly issue.
No, we lost normal EQ.
whatever they say they r taking energy out of the crystals so i opened all mine to get the energy and now I have all this bs in overflow. I guess I'm beat for that though.? Huh kabam?
I would have to say yes and no.
Did we win a battle? Yes as they are backtracking on a terrible, terrible idea that would have had really bad consequences on both the game and the players. Have we won the war? No. The problem is that Kabam will continue to think this way going forward. How do I know? Because I’ve played for too long to think their goals and objectives will change.
This changes really no one’s mind about the eq situation.
This changes no one’s mind about the constant errors and fumbles.
This changes no one’s mind about the bugs and ai issues. This hardly changes anyone’s mind to trust Kabam to do right by the playerbase. They only changed this because of the outrage and everyone speaking up. There’s still so many more issues the game is suffering from. This is a small grain of sand on the beach.
death by 1000 razors…
How many crystals you opened exactly LOL
Glad they listened for the most part on the energy issue. The EQ is better on my level, rewards are definitely better, but only having the one difficulty is still lame. The PI in mine are still just under 100 and 500k + health for the initial quest. That's not fun play to me. It's doable but I won't have the roster depth ranked up for the higher difficulty, not even close, may as well not even bother. It is better than it was so I will give them that. It would be nice if you could pick a lower level for casual fun play.
This is a huge, huge win in my eyes. 1 refill a day will never limit how much I can play. (Very different from the last couple weeks). I appreciate them actually taking a full 180 on this matter, unlike other issues where they half heartily make it slightly less horrible. This is a full 180 course correction and I think we should praise them for this so we see more of it in the future.
(Next mission: stop paywalling champs, put red gaurdian and human torch in the basics TOMORROW)
I am glad they ve reversed the changes in energy outflow. The last two weeks were frankly terrible. Just yesterday I wanted to test some new champions I got from Titans and caught myself on the thought that I cant do that without sacrificing some daily content. For many years that I have played that game, I actually liked and distinguished MCoC from many other mobile games for 2 specific reasons - first the game had very relaxed requirements on daily play (since EQ is monthly based, SQ are weekly based and even Arenas are 3 days long you were not losing much if you didnt play every day, thats sadly now are much less true) and second you had plenty of energy to do what you want in the game and when you want. For me this is how a good game should function, it should be fun not a chore. And its good that MCoC will still be fun.
P.S. But yeah, I still do not like paywalled champions, overtuned new content, outdated stores, cheating AI, bugs and disconnects, lazy designed statcast relics (that will probably make pvp modes much worse as well in a few months), lack of autocomplete for new daily quests and so on. But I still can enjoy the game even with these things. And I couldnt do that if I had to think how to squeeze 20 energy just to make a few test fights with my new champs.
like clockwork, immediately asks for more
Going from "energy refills will be more restrictive than before" to "30 extra energy refills per month!" is one heck of a pivot. Like, suspiciously big. I never kept track of how many refills we got per month before, but this feels as if we're not just back to the status quo but are actually getting significantly more now than we did previously.
My guess is that it'll still kind of even out in a way that suits Kabam in the end anyway. For example, I think there was a solid case that the poker game we got a couple of months ago was too energy-draining. While the mode wasn't exactly embraced with open arms by the community, I still suspect that it'll come back at some point. When that happens, it's not going to cost less energy per entry now that we're getting a free energy refill every day. Likewise, I think the new daily quests could have done well with a little nerf to the energy cost, but that's not going to happen now (and to be clear, I no longer thinks it needs to).
Maybe the side quests start costing one extra energy per tile. Same thing with story content. If another EOP comes a-knocking, we'll probably see the pre-nerfed energy requirements again.
I suspect that somewhere out there, another shoe is dropping.
That being said, I still think this is a win of sorts. I think having even a small stash of energy refills gives you the freedom to do things at least a little more whichever way you please. While I can understand Kabam's desire to make sure that there's not effectively endless energy in the game, I also think there's value in letting people play content in the way they want to. I would find new story content significantly less appealing if I would have to sludge through it over the course of a month just because of energy requirements. It's way more fun to play through it alongside a bunch of mates on Line, each sharing various strategies for the different paths and bosses etc., then sharing and comparing your spoils. I think a lot of the magic in there would get lost if everyone just sort of limped through it over the course of a month instead of, say, a weekend.
I'm not opposed to buying the occasional energy refill to keep the momentum going, but I'm not going to buy 15 energy refills to keep the momentum going. I have better things to spend my units on.
Also, as a teeny tiny content creator without access to the CCP server to showcase champions, I also like to have a few extra energy refills in the stash that don't just go towards completing content. That really helps making videos much easier.
So yes, I am happy that we'll be getting more energy refills. I don't anticipate that it will be quite as much disposable energy income as it might first seem, but I do think that being able to choose when to save energy and when to use it is a good thing and that is much, much easier when you can actually maintain a stash of energy.
It's not a win per se… I play casually when time allows me and sometimes I might have a few hours to play and I use the revives to get ahead with all those side quests and EQ and if I somehow manage to complete them before the end of the month then I jump on the story as I am valiant but haven't done full exploration and currently at 40% on act 6 so those revives will always be welcome and used before their time. Let's hope they don't mess it up more on the future
We went from getting 5 free refills ( 3 from alliance event and 2 from summoners event ) to now getting 9 every week (7 from daily super event and 2 from weekly super event ) . Even tho this might seem like they are giving you way more than before , we also have a mandatory requirement of doing daily quests too . So considering tht , this change is ''almost'' as good as before .
Also considering most of the generic energy calculations we players do do not account for battlegrounds . So a battlegrounds focused player might still feel a decrease in energy depending on their time spent in there.
With frequently released content ( story quests , endgame content ) , the required energy every month might still not be enough .
