The Rebalancing System Currently In Place Needs to Be Replaced or Removed
Ok, so it seems like Kabam is currently in the midst of a "Ruin MCOC any% Speedrun" and fair play to them, they're on pace to set a record. Their latest hiccup, to put it lightly, is the controversial Spider-woman nerf. Now I'm not going to go into why this nerf is just awful, I think everyone's talked about that enough. Obviously its a bad decision and I hope they're smart enough not to go through with it.
What the Spider-Woman debacle really highlights for me is the complete failure that is the current rebalancing system we have in place. It is just completely flawed and I struggle to understand how it benefits the game. Balancing is good and important for any game, but the current system we have in MCOC is not it. The biggest problem is that the balancing decisions made seem to be completely arbitrary. I would not be surprised to learn that the MCOC Balancing Team has never played the game past act 4. I refuse to believe that the Balancing Team has any experience in competitive MCOC. Because their decisions do not reflect this.
To elaborate further, lets look at some example of champions who needed balancing but didn't get it (Or if they did get adjustments, they were pointless).
From 2023:
Dani Moonstar: She actually did get "rebalanced" but did it change anything? Nope, she's still completely irrelevant in the game.
Moondragon: A champion who never got a chance to shine. She should have been an ideal candidate for rebalancing, instead, she's another champion who simply remains irrelevant.
Photon: Spiderwoman is too much on defense but Photon isn't? Photon is in pretty much every battleground deck, regardless of the meta. She's always in war. Always a pain to fight and really strong on offense to. By every definition she is an over tuned champ. No rebalance.
Sandman: Oh god lets not talk about sandman. His rebalance was completely pointless. They didn't even give him a chance to be good and nerfed him before even releasing his rebalance. The entire ordeal felt unnecessary. He was bad. He could have been good. He's still bad.
From 2024:
Bullseye: He did get changed and is "easier" now. However, I think it would still be a stretch to call him "balanced." The only reason he isn't monstrously oppressive is because since his release we have had many mutants released who were tailored to countering him.
Enchantress: I mean, do I even need to say anything. Completely busted on defense while feeling thoroughly lacking on the offensive side. She should have defenitely been tuned down defensively and given more on the offensive side. Rebalancing is about BALANCING a champ.
Isophyne: Iso-mid. No one uses her. She is never talked about. Completely irrelevant on both offense and defense. Completely ignored in balancing.
Patriot: He actually did get rebalanced I believe. Did it make him any better? I don't know, because the changes made kept him in the same position. They didn't do enough to make him relevant or even give him a meaningful niche.
SERPENT: SERPENT DID NOT GET REBALANCED. Let me repeat. SERPENT DID NOT GET REBALANCED. The single most overtuned champ in the history of the game, more so than ghost, more so than hercules, more so than even quake. Completely changed the game. The fact that he didn't get rebalanced is proof of the failure that is the current "Rebalancing System".
From 2025:
Dark Phoenix: She's not being changed. Completely unfair defender. Unbalanced without a doubt. But she cost real money so she's not being touched. But guys, ensnare on Spiderwoman thats too much for MCOC.
Joaqin Falcon: He's being rebalanced. I actually would bet money that the rebalance won't really change much. I don't think anyone is too hopeful for him unfortunately.
I probably could have listed more champs and maybe not all my assessments are the most accurate. But as a whole I feel like I've made my point. The balancing seems to be made randomly, with some clearly over-tuned champs not being changed and weaker champs not being given the necessary buffs to make them viable. When we do get rebalancing, its almost always underwhelming and un-impactful.
There are even more issues with the system currently at place. It incentivizes players to not rank up new champs, because they can randomly be changed with no compensation. No rank down tickets or anything. I rank foured my spiderwoman and gave her a generic gem and gems, now she's being nerfed and I have to deal with it. The system also doesnt take in any input from the community. Everyone was screaming for Serpent to be rebalanced but our concerns fell on deaf ears. I could go on honestly but I've rambled enough.
THE CURRENT REBALANCING SYSTEM IS AN UTTER FAILURE AND I HOPE IT GETS CHANGED INTO SOMETHING MORE EFFECTIVE.
