Excitement for new champs is dead

I honestly could not care less. They might be good. They might be god-tier meta champs.

But how am I supposed to be excited for a champ that could end up being nerfed for one reason or another in 6 months.

Kabam just killed my new champ hype.

Also why aren't they rework or buff all the famous and loved old champions which are pretty much useless right now?

Talking about OG Deadpool, Dr. Strange, Captain America Classic, Groot, Daredevil, Wolverine, OG Thanos, Kang, Classic Ghost Rider, Punisher, Iron Fist, Carnage, Winter Soldier, Task Master, Abomination, Cable, Drax or Black Bolt.

We already have so much champions in this game, but about half of them are worthless and weak. The champion portfolio is so unbalanced.

Thanks someone mentioned, the outrage for SW Nerf is understandable but people acting like din't took them more than a year since ther last Nerf they made in a champion is ridiculous

For some reason we went from "Balance programm is usefull as a fish in the water" to "Just wait and see them Nerf the next defender they release"

Also the most scary thing from Frank kit is the Unstoppable and Unstoppable furies bonusses,unless his immune to ability accuracy reduction he seems a fine type of defender

How would you feel spending 100 bucks for a potential 7* or dropping 36k units into a pity system? Then learning they are gonna get nerfed and I get it the game needs balance but this nerf is uncalled for. Where was the nerf for Serpent.Bulleyes.Enchantress when they were released huh? Why did we have to suffer months on end till the counters were released?

How come she needs a nerf all of a sudden why not release a counter like they have for Bullseye.Serpent.Enchantress and I am betting FrankenCastle can easily counter her like many skill champs can. Show me the data on where she was truly upsetting the balance of the game bc I can guarantee you she ain't.

Just don't drop $100 on the champ. If you feel bad about "losing" $100 you shouldn't have spent it in the first place. All the new characters join the Titan anyway, just wait for them

It s not about the nerf itself, we all knew beforehand that there always was a chance of this happening, that s why the rebalance program exists in the first place.

It s the REASONING that s the problem here, SW gets tuned down not because of gameplay performance, but because…you know the rest.

It's a euphemism for them aiming to nerf every Champ, and yes. It's dramatic. They have always adjusted Champions when necessary. Almost 11 years into it, this isn't news.

For the most part, the current program for rebalancing Champions has been fairly innocuous, making small adjustments here and there where Champs have underperformed. Occasionally, and it's been some time since a "nerf", they will have to take Champs down a peg or two. This isn't news.

Saying you can't care about new Champs, or you can't invest in new Champs, or they're trying to bait and switch, or any other reaction I've seen, is dramatic. People can be upset by all means. That doesn't mean the game is any different than it's always been.

They're not targeting Champs just because they're popular. They're doing their job.

no they aren’t balancing anything, they release champs and then just keep messing with them, if they was balancing them they would be upgrading some of the old champs that no one cares to use anymore because they don’t do anything special they just hit and block and do nothing special. Like when they rebalanced red skull they done good now he’s worth using, Cull also good job!! There are a few good ones they have done but they don’t do enough. I honestly wish they would quit making new champs for awhile and just fix the old ones and leave the new ones alone.

Has any other champion been nerfed in a way that has upset the community other than Spider-Woman during the (current) rebalance program's existence? I remember Bullseye getting a slight nerf, but I other than some people not thinking it was a big enough nerf, I don't think anyone was upset with the nerf as such. Then there have been some bug fixes such as the one that affected Mole Man as well as the root one that impacted Kraven and some other champs. However, by and large it seems as if the community tends to be more disappointed that Kabam doesn't tweak champions either up or down rather than Kabam going in and messing with champions that people have already fallen in love with.

So while I think that there's some reason to be upset with the current situation, at least to me it doesn't really change how I view champion acquisition and rank-ups from how I viewed it before. I've always felt a slight worry when I've considered ranking up a champion who hasn't gone through that process yet, and it is a slight gamble to rank them up at that point. I was a little peeved that Bullseye got his nerf after I'd r3'd him as a defender, even if I can recognize that the nerf ultimately was for the best. Conversely, I was relieved that Count Nefaria wasn't nerfed, despite personally thinking that there was at least a 50/50 chance that he would be. I think I had r4'd him before his rebalance had gone through so I was on pins and needles there for a while.

If Spider-Woman's defensive prowess had been the only thing that had been nerfed, I wouldn't have batted an eye here either. I think Kabam's reasoning as to why she should have her Ensnare removed as a defender is really solid and agree fully. I do kind of agree with them when it comes to the minimal impact it would have on removing the ability from her offensive kit as well since their reasoning basically lines up with how I view the ability and would play Spider-Woman, but clearly there are others who view it differently and for whom the removal of the Ensnare would impact their playstyle way more than it would mine. Since the community team's posts are basically invisible on the forum at the moment, it would be nice if they address the whole issue on the livestream on Friday. I've seen a ton of suggestions for how to solve the issue so that she only ends up with a well-deserved defensive nerf and not an unnecessary offensive one. Hopefully they course-correct there somehow.

But with all of that said, while this situation is unfortunate, I still don't see a pattern of Kabam being unreliable enough for me to stop hunting or ranking newly-acquired champions. I'll still have the same awareness that something might happen as I've had before this whole mess, but since that didn't necessarily stop me from ranking them before, it won't stop me going forward either.

One request, though: it would be nice if the actual champion pages where easier to find. I have no idea how to navigate there. As a result, it's very hard to compare a champion's actual performance in the various categories against their stated goals. This feels a little like the whole "Well, it was on the Trello board" debacle during one of the bug fixes, where everyone just went "Where on Earth is the Trello board?" If it was easier to find the character attribute pages, you could check in with champions that you're thinking of ranking up and look up if their in-game performances match up with how they are meant to perform on paper. Maybe I'm the only one who don't know where to find that info, but I suspect that I'm not alone here and that clarifying it could do some good going forward.

Why would the game die. 95% of players don't even get the new champ the month they release. Plenty of other games rotate hero releases with content/bug fix focused updates.

you may not see a pattern of unreliability, but I think many of us are looking for a pattern of RELIABILITY. It’s very hard to square the cumulative body of decisions that they have made with regard to champion balancing. Add to the fact that their targets seems to be incredibly important at times and forgotten at other times…

So, it creates bad vibes when they announce these seemingly arbitrary decisions, especially when their reasoning seems convenient at best and misleading at worst.

For me, the shine is really off the game for many reasons but the timing and tone deaf nature of the Swoman nerf just tipped me into apathy.

That's because they started off rotating characters/content months. Mcoc has always been both each month. Its never once missed a month of new champs or new content. In 11 years. Minus 2 months. Big difference.

I would argue that the pattern of reliability is that nerfs are exceedingly uncommon. I don't remember exactly when the current rebalancing program started, but the first champion that I can remember who got a buff through it is Shuri, and she came out almost exactly three years ago. During that time, we've had two nerfs. Bullseye and Spider-Woman. I don't think that anyone would argue that nerfing Bullseye slightly was the wrong move. That leaves Spider-Woman as the sole outlier who is going to get a nerf that the community disagrees with. While that is bad, it's still very much an outlier.

Don't get me wrong. This has without a doubt been the worst month in MCOC in a very, very, very long time and I totally get if people feel some type of way about it. I certainly do too and was in fact just complaining to some buddies on Line that I can't wait until the October build arrives so that we can finally be done with the dumpster fire that was September's. Because holy cow has this been a terrible month, and if you're upset about the Spider-Woman nerf, then I get that it feels even more terrible. As if Kabam is actively just throwing trash into the dumpster to keep it burning.

But I think that it's been the last month that has been that dumpster fire, not the rebalancing program as a whole. If anything, I think that the community can probably agree that Kabam tends to not nerf a lot more champions that people would like to see nerfed rather than nerfing champions that people want to see stay as they are.

If you don't trust Kabam's judgement and have grown apathetic after a month of unrelenting Ls, then I hear you. That's absolutely fair. My point is just that, while I share some of that sentiment, I don't see a pattern of Kabam messing with people's champions after release more than once in a blue moon. Despite being very frustrated with Kabam and the game in general right now, Kabam would have to come out with more nerfs for me to start to rethink my rank-up habits.

We'll see what happens when the Nico and Karolina rebalancing update comes. I think that Nico especially is a champ that people are worried might get hit with the nerf brush, and if that happens, then I think there might be a stronger case to be legitimately worried about ranking up champions ahead of time. But if she's left alone, then I reckon that we're largely back to normal again and that this was truly an oddity.

Two champs come to mind — Okoye and Kingpin. Fixed, debugged, nerfed, I don’t really care about the semantics. The changes felt capricious and unpredictable and most of all destabilizing to people investing in the champs (speaking specifically about Okoye here). Yes, we all know the balance program exists. Yet we are all subjected to the endless hype train from Kabam, CCP, etc. I don’t think it’s legitimate for Kabam to relentlessly fan the flames of player enthusiasm on one hand and then whip out the technicalities of rebalancing and expect everyone to say, “oh yeah, you’re right. That’s totally in the fine print and we should just accept it.”

I would worry more about Karolina than Nico. Karolina’s got a really new combination of abilities with the sun thing, the glancing, the passive stun, passive DoT effects, the unblockable, etc. If part of Kabam’s problem is that they do a **** job of forecasting how champs with novel combinations of abilities are going to perform after release, I bet she is going them fits. Talk about a “matchup spread” — KD just rolls right through all kinds of opponents. I’m not sure they realized what they made with her.

Nico seems more predictable. She’s powerful as hell, but she’s got a definite ceiling and some limitations to her loop as an attacker.

I have them both at r4. Based on my low enthusiasm at the moment, I will definitely walk away if they touch either or both of those champs in a significant way. (And yes, I think the change to SW is material in nature.)

No, I'm pretty sure not.

The thing is, most rebalances (buffs and the occasional nerf) have been along the lines of adjusting the Potency or duration of a buff/debuff/passive. Not removing abilities altogether.

Taking a character with a reliable ability to counter Evade (Ensnare) and changing it to a different ability to counter Evade (Pursuit) would be a reasonable adjustment.

Taking a character with a reliable ability to counter Evade, and simply removing that ability changes the character fundamentally.
