What I would change about Cyclops (from a hardcore and passionate fan) Take 2
To start, I know I've already posted my thoughts about Cyclops and what I would change about him earlier this month for his rebalance, but since it got lost during the spider-woman controversy I thought it would be good and important to post my thoughts again so that more people can see it. This is why it's called take 2.
With Cyclops rebalance being possibly only two weeks away, I wanted to talk about what I think are the two changes that could make him go from mid to top tier and I believe should be adressed in his balance update from a player perspective.
1. The adrenaline mechanic. In concept, I do believe the idea to store bleeds and thorns damage is good, but I do believe the execution is a bit poor. For one whenever I try to rely on it, the adrenaline simply falls too quickly for me to capitalize on it. Against Bullseye, for example the adrenaline doesen't stay long enough to regain the health lost from Bullseye's bleeds. So I do believe the adrenaline mechanic could benefit from a buff, whether it's with the zeal passive that Nico Minoru has or something else. My point is, there has to be something that allows the adrenaline to stay on Cyclops health bar long enough to regain the health lost.
2. Cyclops not running towards the opponent. This in my opinion is probably the thing about Cyclops I dislike the most. Running towards the opponent is something that just feels natural for me and taking it away makes it incredibly hard to intercept. I know it is supposed to make the opponent feel more agressive but I simply don't feel the difference compared to other champions who run towards the opponent. Also I find myself getting cornered a lot by the opponent in Battlegrounds because Cyclops won't run towards the opponent and therefore doesen't reduce the distance between him and his corner. Fortunately, I believe there is a very fix to this problem: Replace the not moving towards the opponent with the Mantis double tap button. That way Cyclops will still be standing, but he will also have the option to run. The double tap button could also be implemented for other champions in the future.
And those are the two main changes with Cyclops that I believe could make him great and more viable for other players including myself. There maybe other problems with Cyclops, but I do believe those two are the main ones and if they are properly addressed, he could become a great mutant attacker.
To end on a positive, I do love everything else about Cyclops. His designer did a great job giving him one of the best and most comic accurate vibes. Also the damage is so satisfying to deliver on the opponent and the true focus is one of my favorite things about him.
