How much gold does it take to become worthless? Does MCOC have Billionaires?

I am a casual hoarder, recently realized that having gold crystals hoarded is rather pointless when i have over 150million gold as it is.

Can we get something to actually spend it on, or do we as players, eventually reach a point where our spending opportunities can never match the influx?

Also if im a casual player with 150m, there have to be billionaires out there right? Who is or will be MCOCs first billionaire?

Upgrade your champs. I'm at 35 mil gold but that's only because of the two comps that came out. Usually I stay at around 20-25 mil gold since im always ranking up seven stars. If rank up resources were easier to get I'd be even lower on gold.

Gold used to be a legitimate issue in the game (for those that refused to run arenas), particularly around when 6r4/5 were becoming common rank-ups and early in the existence of 7*. Rank-ups were crazy expensive and the amount of gold required for leveling them up was even crazier. Kabam made a lot of changes since then (and in reality overcorrected), and as a result we've been free from hearing complaints about gold draughts for a very long time. All this to say, it's been worse and better to have too much of an uncapped and non-expiring resource than to have to manage it.

Kabam has done an gold trade in store exactly one time. People bought out the entire store and still had hundreds of millions of gold left over. I doubt kabam makes that mistake ever again.

Holding gold crystals is basically pointless because gold doesn’t expire or have a cap, so you’re never ‘wasting’ it. These days there’s pretty easy access to gold but depending on how aggressive you are at ranking lower-rarity champs you can eat through a decent chunk!

The real problem was people saying they had to hoard gold to save up for the next possible gold trade in event, and thus they had no gold to spend on rank ups, therefore players with tens of millions of gold were claiming there was a gold shortage in the game.

At the moment I have about 600m in gold, plus another maybe 50 million in unopened gold crystals. For a normal player, this is a huge almost unspendable amount of gold - and I spend gold constantly ranking up champs (for reference: I have all of my 2*, 3*, and 4* champs at max rank, and working on my 5s and 6s). I would easily have a billion gold if I wasn't on a quest to rank up everything.

However, compared to the whales in the game this is peanuts. I don't know who the first gold billionaire was, but I do know they have a lot of company now. For most of the history of this game the whales' primary spending target was (featured) crystals, to target new champs. Anyone spending thousands of dollars on champion crystals for years is going to be sitting on giant piles of gold. I would not be surprised if there are players with over four billion gold because at one time the gold cap was two or four billion - aligning with the signed or unsigned 32-bit integer limit - and was increased a while ago to 9,007,199,254,740,991 which is more or less the maximum integer you can store in a 64-bit floating point number without loss of precision. I'm guessing they changed it when it became clear there were players approaching the old cap.

And no, no one is near the new cap, or ever will be near that cap, or could possibly spend enough money to approach that cap, so that gold limit is probably safe for the conceivable lifetime of the game. My guess is the highest gold inventory in the game might be tens of billions of gold, but probably not hundreds of billions of gold.

I'm glad players are complaining about having too much gold rather then there is a gold issue. Kabam did fix the gold issue and it's nice to have plenty of a resource that doesn't expired. I'm down for this new gold issue.

Yeah, I'll join the chorus here that has no issue with the lack of a gold issue. While I'm sure that there are game design reasons for gold and ISO being a thing, in terms of my enjoyment of the game and its systems, I find them rather pointless. I'm perfectly fine with having to hunt down resources to rank up champions, and I do enjoy leveling them up afterwards in order to see them rise in power, but there's just such a huge difference between not having the resources to rank up a champion and not having the resources to level up a champion that you've already ranked up. The first one is a reasonable part of the game, while the latter just…sucks.

A lack of gold and ISO so often took the joy out of ranking up your champions up until a few years ago. Because despite you earning all of those sweet, precious, hard-to-earn resources from finally beating some difficult quest - and you used them to rank up your favorite champion - you still lacked the other resources to actually increase their power to their full potential. You finally rank 5'd your first 6* and then they were just sitting there at a paltry level 7/65 because you were out of either gold or ISO. Whenever that happened, it always felt bad. I'm really happy that we've moved past that.

Kabam can already control how fast we get resources to rank up our champions, so there isn't really a need for that secondary roadblock to exist. As such, I see no reason to risk artificially bringing it back by adding other stuff that we could use our gold on. From Kabam's side, I'm sure it would be rather pointless and just a downright bad idea to open a store that people with practically infinite gold could use that gold to buy valuable items at a price that didn't actually dent their gold reserve in meaningful ways. They could just buy and buy and buy indefinitely. So in order for that store to exist, the prices would probably have to be so high that they would affect your gold reserves, which would bring back that old and much unwanted roadblock.

I don't think that would please anyone in the long run. Better just keep it as an antiquated piece of currency that the game has largely moved away from.

Half a billion. If you’re not required to rank up for prestige and not a ranking profligate, once you’re around 25 million it starts to get hard to be gold poor.
