crazy how many people are in denial about this… it’s why the game is no longer as fun as it used to be.
turns out releasing borderline bs mechanics that are heavily slanted to punishing players for not owning a counter every other month and devaluing mastery investments may be a new design space but it isn’t a very fun one.
You know what opens up design space and was created for pretty much that exact purpose and can be used infinitely and interchanged to suit any situation kabam wants anywhere in the game?
Nodes.
Their design space argument for these Champions was and will always be complete bs
agreed seems like certain designers had champion design-brain rot and forget those exist
What a fantastic video!
I immediately subscribed, and look forward to the rest of the series!
This is a pretty solid video…I think a bunch of people would agree with her assessments including CCP tubers….but she had the moxie to actually say something. I gave her a thumbs up. Peace
When the game has 300+ champions, it will reach the stage whereby whatever the new champion can do, the existing champions can do as well
In a way, the game developer has no choice but to design the new champion differently so players would want to have that champion
This is why we have champions like Bullseye, Enchantress, Serpent, Onslaught
If Kabam continued to churn out the same champions (similar to 2014 champions) every month den the game would have died out years ago
This video was fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
that’s a false binary premise that nobody is asking for. Let’s hold two thoughts in our head at the same time please.
More sophisticated champion design is a good thing but the 2024-2025 defender design approach is bad for the game.
Thanks for putting this on my radar….Kabam’s balance team is a circus of BS, so BS defenders are basically untouchable.
This video is brilliant, every point spot on.
Probably one of the best vids out there on the current issues
I love watching this and watching the like number keep going up. Its so good.
The problem is, while a lot of top players complain about these new bs defenders, they're also the ones who immediately buy them, rank them up, and place them as defenders every opportunity they get.
We can pretend like we're the victims of bad design, but I think we also have to acknowledge that there is a strong market for bs defenders. Even if people complain, a lot of people (including many who complain) want to have these types of defenders. They just don't like it when they get cooked themselves.
And of course, this also stems from the hypocritical nature of the MCOC community at large.
People complaining about deals then buying them. People threatening to quit but continuing to play. People calling others whales but also spending themselves. People blaming their losses on bad luck but not their wins. Et cetera.
And I don't say this to undermine the complaint about defenders; I'm just adding that this is another core issue where the community is both angry and complicit at the same time. I think that's the bigger issue imo.
He is right. Eventually they have to introduce more challenging Champs. It's a never-ending battle, really. People call them mid or garbage when they're not OP, and when they're strong, they say it's broken and Kabam is at fault.
As many people that have complained about these defenders, they've also used said defenders to some success, I'd wager. As they've been used, people have learned counters for them.
As for the video, it was so negative in the first couple sentences, I couldn't be bothered. No offense to her, just not my preferred content. I prefer to look at issues more clearly than "Kabam is terrible....pro-player....".
There is no such thing as pro-Kabam or pro-player.
The community has no choice but to be complicit which feeds into the cycle of kabam trying to get away with whatever the hell they want.
When it comes to champion design, especially DLL. Theres really no budging them so of course people would just deal with it while not having any fun

Many people are in denial of this because of enchantress, SPW was one of the perfect counter for her and for that people has invested ton off resources to buy her from bundles or from other resources.
Kabam is unknowingly taking this matter lightly and skipping the anger which summoners are facing but in future they will see the consequences of this way of implementing or modification which is being to Champs after release
to be fair,..the video wasn’t completely negative,..and she had some valid points.
I do however think it has become the nature of the game itself.
When you are releasing two champs a month while trying to make them relevant and to keep customers interests piqued, it cannot be easy.
The more champs released the more the community becomes critical of their “worth”.
We are critical of lacklustre champions that we wait 🤞,..half a year for a possible rebalancing.
We are critical of op defenders that are marketed with only a future “specific counter”,…yet we rank these “defenders “ up and then target acquiring the counters for said defenders.
Then when Kabam looks at everything under a microscope and decides to “nerf” a champ, the community screams bloody murder because other op champs did not receive the same treatment.
I don’t believe the situation is Kabams or the communities fault tbh.
It is simply where we are at with Champion releases
I’m not saying it isn’t a problem…it is.
I am saying it was inevitable that it would one day come to this
I view Kabam as a drug manufacturer/dealer. Any notion that there is some plausible reality where Kabam does everything the players/addicts want it to do and continues to stay in business is delusional I think.
And for what it's worth, I think bs defenders are a good drug, not in the sense of being good for the players/addicts, but in the sense of being good for business.
In other words, I view it as a symptom-level criticism of gacha design, even if it appears to be framed as a gameplay complaint. Basically delusional because it involves playing a gacha game and railing against gacha mechanics.
Which is different than actual gameplay complaints, like Titania's intimidate not working, or the AI reacting at monumentally faster frame rates than our own inputs, and the like….
Only 1 of those 4 is truly BS. The rest just had the misfortune of being shoved straight into a tactic pool in AW that supercharged them. Yes, there are BG nodes that can make bullseye, enchantress and onslaught unplayable. But that doesn't happen as often as serpent or even dark phoenix now. So the argument that defenders need to OP to expand the design space is bogus. It's a lack of creativity on the designers most likely due to deadline constraints and other economic pressures at Kabam.
That's the foundation that the game has been built over these many years. Champs are released, counters are released at some point, and the cycle continues. The drive for Champs is what fuels the game, and at times, there will be Champs that pose a problem. There will also be counters introduced for them eventually. Change is the only constant. No Champ will be on top forever, and no Champ will be the only one we need for everything.
I like this video cause it unravels and leaves in the nude the direction of the game. Its been so long since anything fun or exciting has been introduced, and why would that even be a priority when the sole focus is selling a pronlem and then a solution.
The part of including nodes into a champions kit was a first time eye opener for me from all the vids I have watched
no he’s not. But I know you love playing in fields of straw men so unsurprisingly you picked this one up.
I mean that’s a pretty damning metaphor. Either way I think the larger point is if you keep upping the potency of the product then customers will OD and stop using the product… which is the current direction that is trending
I see. So when someone disagrees with you on the exact thing you commented on, it's a strawman.
I hate to agree with you when youre disagreeing with me but in this case I would say youre clear of the strawman allegations
That's all you do. Ground, you're so pro-Kabam you reek of expired inventory. Of course you're going to be disinterested in this video.
Where is your humanity! Siding with inanimate entities will not make you one!
I love her sense of humour
Lets keep the metaphors in check folks. Toeing the line here.
