Question regarding rank down tickets

Can I use a R3-R4 gem and then use a rank down ticket to get catalysts? I.e. I essentially want to use the ticket to convert my Science gem from the Act 5 100% exploration rewards into catalysts. Will this be possible?

    Apparently yes. At least I used a gem from R2 to R3 and I can get catalysts back
