Returning player - name taken??

I have recently logged in after a good while of inactivity, and it has prompted me to choose a name, and it says that my old name (NitroReaper) has been taken. Can this happen?

Yeah, it happened to me as well when I didn't use my alt account for a long time. I was able to get my name back without any issue, but I had to pick it again.

I have no idea why some accounts get to keep their name, though. I had an alliance mate quit the game (not just the alliance) years ago, but I've always kept him in my friends list in case he decides to come back. I can clearly see that he hasn't been playing the game for years since his account hasn't progressed since he left us, but he still has his name intact. Weird.

For your friend, you can always go to invite in the incursions screen and see how long it has been since they've logged in if you ever want a precise answer.

Ah, thanks for the tip! That helped clean up my friends list from some people who haven't logged in in years.
