More "Assist" / Pre-Fight Characters

Hey all! In watching Seaton's new account challenge, I noticed just how cool it was having Heimdall on his team. I thought, "I wonder if there is more design space available for assist/pre-fight characters in the game?"

I know it isn't the best for BG's, and questing isn't quite the same as it used to be, etc...but how cool would it be if otherwise somewhat underwhelming characters like Dracula had a secondary ability if on the team (i.e. makes bleeds slightly more potent, etc.)...just a thought. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Well as we all know, Serpent opened up an extreme amount of design space so im sure we could get a couple of these champs with all the necessary space he created.

This used to be the design concept when Story Quests and Long Form Contents were the central focus of the game. That is why the supreme Mutant synergy team was introduced with Apocalypse 5 years ago. Fun times. Clearing Abyss for the Carina's challenge with a Mutant synergy team was a core memory.

In the current era, Pre-fights are still being made like the one for Maker but had become less about team play and Synergies have become less relevant. We'll maybe see a few more but they won't be as prominent as they were years ago is my guess.

Kabam is going to add a gear system and tie special abilities to them. Of course they will sell them for $100 each though. Gotta make the whales happy

Yeah, I would also see a return to both a bit more normal questing and, as a result of that, more questing-focused champions. Everyone got so hyped about the Cull Obsidian buff, but I've found him rather underwhelming since I can't really use him anywhere. He's good for BGs, but otherwise there is such a hyperfocus on single-fight content (at least for the individual attacker) that there's very little room to actually ramp him up and have fun.

Where I have had fun with him has been with my alt account that I've been running the last month or so, where I have had quests to burn through. He's a ton of fun there. If we get more content like that, I'd love to see more champs that either ramp up throughout a quest or that boost other champs on the team. One thing that I think could be really fun is a gauntlet-style quest where you don't have to swap champs between fights, but rather have to carefully build a team that can overcome a lot of different challenges along the way. Basically one Necropolis path, but maybe not as hard (assuming we treat it as challenging but not Everest content). Just something where taking synergies, team-building and support champions into account actually matters.

I agree on the questing front. New account challenges are always super popular because everyone remembers how amazing it was to quest. You found synergies; learned fights and how to best ramp…looked at entire paths to determine the best team, etc.

I know it is a lot to ask for Kabam to make quests (I can only imagine the planning that goes into it)…but it could open up a huge design avenue and keep people from (a) getting burnt out in BG’s and (b) discounting new champs unless they are BG-oriented.

Elder eq has done rampup and synergy champs dirty.

Still fun in regular eq.
