BG question from someone that's never played it

Can you search for people you want to fight against in BGs or is it all randomly selected for you?

I see the flaw in being able to search, you could have 2-3 accounts and just fight against yourself for easy wins.

Also, is BG the most detested mode in the game?
I know people mostly only go on the forum to complain but I don't think I've ever seen a positive post about it.

You can play friendly matches against whoever you want, but they don't count for anything.

At the very least, BGs is the most polarizing game mode. The majority of players either love it or hate it.

If you ain't a spender, you'll have a really hard time on BGs, specially with today's goal to reach a certain rank in order to obtain the best champions in the game. Most people say "skill issue", but the reality is that if you don't have the "best" champs at max rank, you can be the most skilled player in the world and will still lose to a fingerless whale

It's a fun mode to play casually, but it takes a very special someone to be able to push especially hard once you've reached Gladiator's Circuit. Roster strength isn't everything - I've won against much bigger accounts and lost to much smaller ones, because either I or they were the better player - but it counts for a lot.

That said, if I were to rank the game modes that I dislike the most, Battlegrounds would only maybe get a foot into the Top 3. The standard versions of AQ and AW are both horrendously boring to me, as is vanilla Incursions. Yeah, now that I think about it, there's no way that BGs qualifies for a medal in the worst game mode race.
