Feedback on Battlegrounds Matchmaking

Dear Kabam Team,

I would like to share my thoughts regarding the current Battlegrounds event. I have noticed that when searching for an opponent, the matchmaking system often pairs me against players whose champions are significantly stronger than mine — sometimes two to three times higher in rating.

For example, if my champions are in the 20,000–25,000 rating range, I frequently encounter opponents with champions rated at 45,000–50,000. While I am not opposed to challenging myself, in most cases the outcome of such battles feels predetermined, which makes the experience less fair and enjoyable.

In my opinion, it might be worth reconsidering the matchmaking criteria, perhaps by aligning opponents more closely based on champion rating or player level. Not all players have fully maxed-out rosters, and the current system seems to heavily favor those at the very top.

Out of ten matchmaking attempts, I only encountered one opponent with a roster comparable to mine. I find this imbalance discouraging and believe that adjustments could greatly improve the fairness and accessibility of Battlegrounds for a wider range of players.

There is an unranked version of battlegrounds now if you want to only match up with players at your level.

If you want to play the main version then you will be matched with whoever is in your current tier and playing at the time you pressed match.

Battlegrounds isn't meant to be fair and balanced. It's simply a game mode that puts you against other players. Your skill and roster strength will ultimately determine where abouts on the leader board you cap out at. Only improving those two things will get you higher as the seasons progress.

I await the usual suspects to appear shortly to complain about 'whalegrounds'

In the victory track matches will get easier over time as players progress though in to the gc, so you may find it easier to wait to few days whenever you hit a wall and try again as the rosters you face may be more you level. Rinse and repeat until you hit your ceiling for the season.

Thank you again for clarifying the matchmaking system and the role of the unranked mode.I do understand that the unranked Battlegrounds is meant to provide fairer matchups, but one drawback is that it currently offers no rewards.

Perhaps it could be worth considering adding at least some form of minor rewards to the unranked mode. They would not need to be as significant as those in the ranked Battlegrounds, but even small incentives could make the mode more appealing and give players a reason to participate beyond practice.

This way, unranked Battlegrounds could serve both as a fairer environment for mid-level players and as a meaningful part of the overall game experience

At the end of the day, you've got two options. Play the opponents you don't want for the rewards you do want, or play the opponents you do want for the rewards you don't want.

I am sure they will flesh out the unranked mode a bit more overtime, but I would never expect it to have rewards that feel like they're worth working for. The fairest version of matchmaking in an open competition will always be exactly that; an open competition. In one big pool of rewards, it should be expected that you can line up against anyone else in the game. Does it suck sometimes? Of course, but it's the nature of the beast. But you will always gain more rewards playing the tough matchups than you will playing the easy ones.

For all of you people who dump on every post like this: There is barely any information on what battlegrounds is in the game and no one is going to read any of the information in game. Kabam needs to make a youtube video (put an ad on it for revenue) and explain it in like 2 minutes and link it in battlegrounds.

When I first came back it was after battlegrounds had started and I felt the same way as all of these people (I think I even made a forum post about it). It just seems like a fun mode to play against others, then you find it frustrating to never be able to win at the beginning of the season. @Kabam (Osaurus) Rex create that content, yo.

And in the future, let's treat these forum users like people coming to a forum with a question and concern and try to let them know. This forum is becoming a hot mess.

I worked hard to build a decent roster, doing content i didnt always enjoy and making sure to spend resources wisely so i can stomp entitled noobs and be semi competitive against spenders in bg's.

I get stomped occasionally but effort is rewarded in pvp competition so finish content, build a roster and compete.
