Alliance Coliseum Rewards
The exclusion of points earned by players who reused the same champion multiple times in the Alliance Coliseum is inconsistent with the Terms of Service (ToS) of Marvel Contest of Champions (MCOC).
The act of switching champions by sliding from one champion to another on the champion selection screen is an existing in-game feature that functions exactly as designed. This interaction does not involve any malfunction, unintended behavior, or circumvention of game systems. As such, it cannot reasonably be classified as an exploit.
According to Section 8.1.5 of the MCOC Terms of Service:
“Exploit: Use features of the Services for anything other than their intended purpose, including exploiting glitches whether or not for personal gain.”
An exploit, by definition, requires the use of a feature in a manner that does not work as intended. In this case, the champion selection and swapping mechanic operates precisely as designed and has long been part of standard gameplay. Therefore, using this feature—even repeatedly—does not meet the criteria of an exploit under the ToS.
Furthermore, the Alliance Coliseum itself is not a core gameplay mechanic or system in the traditional sense, but rather a game mode concept or user story layered on top of existing mechanics. No explicit rule within the ToS, nor within clearly communicated in-game instructions, defines the reuse of the same champion as invalid or prohibited within this mode. Without such a definition, players cannot reasonably be expected to infer restrictions that were neither stated nor enforced by the game system at the time of play.
Additionally, this issue disproportionately affects players who naturally switch champions using horizontal sliding—a neutral and intuitive interaction, particularly for users accustomed to left-to-right reading patterns. This behavior is common, unremarkable, and foreseeable. Such an issue should have been easily identified during quality assurance and testing phases prior to the release of the game mode. The responsibility for this oversight lies with the implementation, not with the players.
In conclusion, penalizing players or alliances by withholding earned rewards due to the use of fully functional, intended in-game features is unjustified under the current Terms of Service. Players should not bear consequences for shortcomings in the design, communication, or testing of a newly introduced game mode. Accordingly, all affected players and alliances should receive their full, rightfully earned rewards.
