Lizard's buff immunity in Big Thing war (node 2)

The Buff Safety node isn't giving me the Force Charge when Lizard goes buff immune during his specials. The wording on the node says "When the attacker is immune to a buff, gain 1 force charge".
So then when Lizard throws a special attack when he has buffs on him, he becomes immune to those buffs and should then get the Force charge, right? When the special attack is being thrown, while the power snack is on cooldown, the only reason the buffs are removed from Lizard is because he goes buff immune. Why does this not count for the node?

There's no way to test this to confirm without costing my alliance, but I would guess that the charges trigger when a buff is prevented by immunity, not when they are removed by immunity. In other words, Lizard isn't gonna work. He could work slowly with the S99 relic, but that's about it.

Yeah def don't try to test that, it did not work for me. I'd only just got Lizard, went in with a little too much excitement, and forgot to put the sp99 relic on (which was my backup plan, hoping the base buff immunity works).
For anyone reading this, Lizard DOES NOT WORK on Node 2 rn. I was just wondering why not.
