Who Could the Other Stellar-Forged Champs Be?
So DLL says in his "Spotlight with Context" video for Stellar-Forged Star-Lord that the overall design goal with this run was to offer a "What If" scenario for champs who could've reasonably fit into multiple different classes (ex: Star-Lord could've released as a Skill champ, but they went with Tech instead, so the Stellar-Forged is a Skill version).
So with that mindset, who could the other three champs be, since we know that Doom will be the final champ? Here are my current thoughts:
1. Any Symbiote champion who is not a Cosmic could be changed to that class for parity with that general assumption. That includes:
- Agent Venom
- Anti-Venom
- Symbiote Supreme
While I think this might be too simple of a throughline to use, if I had to pick one of them, I would pick Symbiote Supreme as the best candidate. Anti-Venom's reasoning for being Science is pretty solid in the lore, and Symbiote Supreme seems like they could add some interesting Knull influence (unless "Null's Shadow" is different then "Knull's Shadow" in a younger brother kind of way). Plus he seems the most "50-50" between two classes out of the bunch.
2. I think that any avatars of gods could reasonably become Mystic champions in the same vein as Juggernaut with Cyttorak and White Tiger with the Tiger God. That includes:
- Black Panther (Bast)
- Black Panther Civil War (Bast again)
- Moon Knight (Khonshu)
- Mr. Knight (Khonshu again, though I doubt they would do this version so soon after releasing him)
- Chee'ilth (Brother Grizzly and Sister Eagle, though I'm not clear on the delineation between divine spirits bestowing power and gods bestowing power)
- Killmonger (Bast in the MCU, but also K'Liluna the Betrayer in the comics potentially)
- Jabari Panther (Ghekre, though she might not be a formal avatar)
I was originally going to say Black Panther as my pick in this bunch, but I think it could be Moon Knight as the best way to introduce a Jake Lockley version of the character into the game without having him be one of the two champs in a given month. Khonshu could theoretically be more active in his moveset and kit with Jake as one of Khonshu's four facets from the comics (Pathfinder, Embracer, Defender, and the Watcher of Overnight Travelers).
3. Lastly, there are characters that could potentially be different classes by their nature:
- Dragon Man: Robot, could be Tech
- Sersi or Ikaris: "Synthetic beings" in the MCU, so could be Tech, but a bit of a stretch
- Karnak: Famously uses two different class catalysts to rank up, so a Cosmic version is surely possible
- Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver: The classic debate of "Mutant or not" could lend to a Mutant version of either of these two
- Sasquatch: Tanaraq could take a backseat and the Gamma radiation could drive this champ to the Science class
- Kamala Khan: With the current comics making her a Mutant as originally designed (before corporate quirkiness led to her being an Inhuman), this could be a good way to add a Mutant Stellar-Forged champ
Despite all of these, I would genuinely bet at least a dollar that the best champ to pick in this category would be Green Goblin. It would be the perfect way to reference and "correct" the snafu that came from his release. So many people clowned on the decision to make him Tech, and the decision from Kabam to make him the boss of 5.3.6 (the Science chapter, when every other chapter has a boss of the same class it highlights) only reinforced that they knew what they were doing. This would be the perfect time to focus on the Goblin Formula and how it altered Norman inside and out, as well as cheekily reference MCOC history.
If there are other champs I missed or champs you think have a stronger case than my three picks, let me know. I really like the design directive Kabam took with the Stellar-Forged champions and I'm interested to see who gets added.
