Instant damage bug kitty pride

Using kitty pride in AW on path 7. Used her for fights 1 (Chee’ilth) and 4 (kingpin) tier 2 map.

Everytime I threw a special I took direct damage. Made sure I was phasing when I threw it but still root damage.

Wondering if this is a bug or a weird interaction that I missed when planning my fights. Any help is much appreciated
