Future Content Strategy Question
I saw someone comment that AI is now creating quests and it got me thinking. That kinda is what new content looks like nowadays, at least outside of the story (the writers do an awesome job with this, I enjoy the side quests each month and the continued evolution of MCOC through those). I wonder what the real content is to look forward to.
Someone in my alliance said Kabam has turned content into homework instead of engaging content, and it rings so true. Story is the reliable thing to look forward to, an it’ll be 7 months between 9.3 and 9.4 releasing. It’s only been a few chapters since Kabam’s targets of releasing one chapter every 3 months (think that was during act 8) but we’re now tracking over double that. Act 9 will have taken from September 2024 to April 2026 to fully release. Calling that a drip feed of content is a bit lenient.
People are holding out hope for content and we seem to take anything Kabam throws at us. We’re looking forward to some carina objectives, which are literally just Kabam adding tag requirements for us to re-run old content—that’s literally it. AW showcase is fun, but it’s literally just “take the hardest defenders in high tier AW, put them on two paths, make the boss the worst of the lot (based on deaths observed in AW season) and add a tag requirement at the gate”, there’s no real design to it. The class showcases are great fun but let’s be honest, they’re regurgitated content built by the prompt “take the top defenders in X class and add them to this map”.
Ordeal was the “of pain” events regurgitated with an epic new boss. We were supposed to see Ares again, but that’s not happening. Why?
Where is the DESIGN that goes into content on Kabam’s side? Side quests have almost none of it. The story is there, and the paths might as well be random with bosses selected based on the characters the writers chose for that month, of course with new releases. The class nodes have slightly updated but barely change and they certainly haven’t kept up with the meta unless the community shouts about it on these forums.
I want to understand Kabam’s strategy for developing new content. We know they want to monetise new features like ascension and first appearance stuff, fair enough. But where is the vision for making this game worth continuing to play for another 10 years? It honestly, genuinely looks like AI could have randomly generated almost all the content we see nowadays. Outside of the horrible, browser-based mini games being thrown out way, of course.
Anyone else feel this way? Not enough focus on content and what content there is is stale on release cos we saw it before?
PS: not having a go at anyone at Kabam, I really appreciate you all. I do worry about the company’s priorities, but not any of the individuals’ intents.
