I don't post often here, and I still believe the way ascension is being monetized is bad for me as an F2P. But with the bad I think it is also important to emphasize the good, and that is the new Elder progression title. The fact that it is not paywalled in any way, and that without spending any money a player such as myself will be able to get 3 Rank 5s and obtain the new title on day one, and that this title will also carry immediate exclusive rewards, is a very nice thing for Kabam to do and I am sure is helping keep many players engaged despite the other negative issues. So thank you for handing this aspect of the game in a great way.

And for ascension, maybe you don't need to pay, only get lucky with Empowered Cristals to get an Ascended champion.
