Torch or Upgrade Materials for PVE focused player?

While I know Torch is ultra-rare, I can't really see myself dumping all 2 mil deadlifts into a single champ that I'm not sure will carry my roster, whereas the upgrade materials for r5 and maybe a few r4s will help my roster grow in diversity.
What are your thoughts? Is Torch really just that worth it, for someone who doesn't play that much battlegrounds and focuses on pushing act 9 + monthly EQ? I already have good science champs like Spider Woman, Silk, Photon, Sentry. I am FTP by the way.

So Torch wouldn't be a game changer for me? I'm wondering cuz I've never used Torch before and I don't know if he's used a lot in quest type content.

I'd personally still pick Torch on the off chance that there ever is a defender that he handles better than anyone else and others can't handle them, it'd be nice to have. Also, since you're not focused on battlegrounds, I haven't really seen a need anywhere where you need rank fives or even rank fours to complete story or EQ content.

On the flip side - R5 and few more R4s doesn't really do too much for PVE (aside from trying to attain the next progression title). PVE doesn't strictly need R4s or R5s, as they can still be comfortably handled by R3s.

I have those same good science champions you've named, and Human Torch still does stuff none of those champion you've named can do (ie. DoT focus).

My advice - if you don't think you will do the Carina Challenges to get enough R5s to qualify for next progression title, you may consider going for the R5 materials. But in all other scenarios, it is better to take the guaranteed Rare champion than going for materials that PVE content will be providing you anyways over time.

I see your point. I'm very keen on going for the Elder title for big rewards boost (only reason I need the r5s), but 3 r5s and act 9 completion is like near impossible for the amount of time and effort I can put into the game, at least for a good while. Do you know if the Carina challenges have enough for all 3 R5s? or at least 2?

R5s are only for the Elder title. Is it realistic for a FTP to get 3 R5s without spending copious amounts of time? My only real fear for not going for Torch is impeding my progress towards Elder as a casual player.

FTP can get rank fives by the following:

One from Karina's challenge volume 6 (gem)

And if you have done all of the coliseums and other random sources for tier 5 alpha,you should be just below 3 t5a. Completing Act 9 gets you 25%, which will be enough for another r5.

You'll get a r5 gem from 100% 9.

If you're already so far away in Act progression that you're not already 100% on 9.1-9.3, and feel that R5 Gem is just out of reach, then focusing your Deadweights on 37,800 T5A shards (60% of a full T5A, the most you can get from the free deadlifts provided), then that low, incremental amount of T5A isn't really going to get you tht much closer to hitting Elder.

The interesting thing is that Human torch is good at punching up in PVP, questing and long form contents... While you only get a couple of T5A fragments you probably won't be able to use for a while.... Human torch is the better choice

I’m also contemplating between taking the selector (for Fury) and the r5 mats. The way I would picture this scenario though is in terms of how long it will take you to get those certain materials.

For the r5 mats, you’ll be able to obtain the 60% of a t5a or so from multiple upcoming sources, including apex coliseum milestones, future end game content, and act 9 100%, if you eventually get around to it. If you don’t plan on exploring Act 9 anytime soon, then it will probably take 2-3 months to get a 3rd r5 without spending. That is, assuming you already have enough mats to get 1 r5, and can obtain the gem from Carina’s challenges.

Taking the t5a from the store will likely speed up your ability to get a 3rd r5 by anywhere from 2-6 weeks if I had to guess. So if you’d rather take advantage of elder resources and benefits 2-6 weeks earlier, then I would choose that bundle.

Alternatively, if you chose Torch, you would see immediate benefit from that in being able to use him, vs having to wait to get the other 2.4 t5a. With every single champ in this selector, my assumption is that they will eventually be added to the base pool. At the earliest, they will be added in June or September, but if I had to guess it would happen in December. This would align with the major basic pool additions added last December, which included many similar pools and rare champions. And keep in mind that the base pool will be much larger by then, and your chances of pulling Torch will only be slimmer.

So it’s really down to whether you’d rather wait 2-3 months to get elder (or essentially 2-6 weeks longer than if you chose the t5a), or until (probably) December to potentially acquire Torch.

Looking at it that way, I would advise taking the t5a if you cannot explore Act 9, and taking Torch if you can explore Act 9. The benefits of getting Elder will greatly benefit you, but it’s really down to how badly you want to get Torch.

Don't see Torch or Red Guardian as huge differences on a roster, I'm in doubt between r5 materials or those awakening gems, I have some important champs that are still unduped that would benefit me much more than Torch, for example Onslaught, Karolina, Sentry, I just got Blade as well

With so many champs now, there isn’t a single one out there that’s genuinely game changing all by themselves. Having said that HT is better than most at taking out troublesome mystics. I don’t think any of them have Nova Flame immunity so to me he’s worth it for that reason alone.

if u have a 6 star rank 5 ascended human torch then there is no point of going for the 7 star

I had to decide whether to go for HT or Nick Fury, or something else. In the end, I went for three generic 7* AGs.

It was a hard decision for me but I'd been trying to awaken my 7* Venom for several months with no luck. Plus, with two generics spare if anything special comes along later this year I've got something ready for them.

I would say don’t get the champ selector.

I have had torch as 7s forever. Dont even remember when or where I got him, but he is still r1 and have never been used.

Unless they make end game content restricted to using 7* champs where Torch is one of the top available options. Then your maxed 6* is worthless.
