Explainer: Why it's harder over time to get into GC despite having done so previously

Battlegrounds is a mode where the bottom players don't get into GC and don't get the rewards bcos time runs out after 28 days

When the bottom players don't get the rewards, they may stop playing which means the second bottom players find it harder to get into GC and get the rewards bcos they are now the bottom players

There is a recorded power creep over time that I see bcos I constantly get into GC with different Prestige 30 since Prestige 30 was launched last year

It wasn't possible to record such power creep based on the previous Prestige 5 as Prestige 5 doesn't record the true strength of a player's battlegrounds deck

Power creep is the most obvious after Banquet when Banquet participants Prestige jump by a huge amount in December, early January

So when Prestige 30 was launched last year, I got into GC without problems with 22k Prestige 30

In the latest season I got into GC with 32k Prestige 30 but players right now with 22k Prestige will find it very hard to get into GC

So this is what I call Power Creep, basically the same exact mode every season but you need to improve on your deck relative to your opponents or you will fall behind and find it hard to get into GC

You can get a general idea of what minimum Prestige is necessary by looking at those players who are in GC leaderboard, the lowest tier players have an average prestige of 34k +/- bcos most players with high Prestige stop playing after a few matches in GC and start camping in Gamma tier, so the Prestige is much higher due to less participation

It is still possible to get into GC with 32k Prestige or 30k Prestige depending on your Skill and your champions

Prestige is a numerical rouge gauge of a battlegrounds deck, what champions you rank up is also important, if you don't have sufficient defenders, you will also lose in battlegrounds

As rank 5 and Ascension 2 become more common, power creep will again start to show over time as players have higher and higher Prestige

1 solution is to have big accounts who previously are in GC for consecutive seasons to start higher up in VT like Vibranium 5,4,3,2 for example

This will stop the traffic jam that we see every season at Diamond 5 when every GC players are lumped together in Diamond 5 at season start

Kabam has not adopted this feedback for many months since it was suggested by many players including me many months ago

The flipside to the OPs suggestion is that a lot of lower prestige valiants have progressed significantly since banquet and because of banquet and the other changes.

There’s now a much bigger player base that can put together a full rank 4 deck and because 30 is the BG deck limit, higher prestige valiants/elders aren’t seeing the advantages they saw a few months ago.

I’ll put my hand up as being a classic example of this. I’ve gone from 10 rank 3 plus assorted others in October 25 to 3 rank 5, 29 rank 4 plus a big pile of rank 3 sitting under that. All in the space of about 7 months. I’ve spent some money but not whale standards money and I don’t think my progression is unusual.

It's more like a power march than creep, after whatever the last spendathon was the acceleration of accounts has been massive. I struggled last season and stopped pushing, first gc missed in a looong time. Im 4 wins away from gc and will stubbornly get there because FOMO has me firmly in its grasp, I didnt miss a deathless champ and with 33k prestige there really isn't a reason to miss these, apart from skill issue which I has.

I had one quitout and my last fight was a timer hog who didnt bother and that's it. I used to go whole tiers without fighting a match.

Time for me to get good, or waste R4 on the horrible champs we all hate, or ignore bgs unless I really need to be there.

This BG meta was easily the worst of the lot that I can remember, and I recall thinking the power burn was sucky enough.

I've decided that despite it happening before and taking advantage of it, because I'm no good, I'd prefer chase pieces not in pvp content. I want to compete against kabams content, not the wallets, luck or even skill of other players.

simple answer; there is a stellar forged piece attached to it so even players who don’t normally play bg are chasing it , that’s why

I got to GC with 23k prestige this season, and it was absolute hell. The only reason I could is because I'm relatively skilled at the game, and a lot of the big accounts don't really know what to do when you give them non meta defenders that they don;t know how to fight and ban their nuke attackers. It still can be done with skill, but from next season, with collective bonuses, I don't think it will be possible.

I unfortunately missed banquet, and as an FTP player, my account is not full of r4s, as is perfectly possible for long time ftp players. I started playing again after a multiple year break in late Jan, so my account is really small for where I am in the game.

And to be honest, I think getting GC this season was easier than last, because there were more people playing it for the blade piece, so every now and then u got a nice match up with a similar account to yours. All in all I can't see myself being competitive in BGs for a long time, because by the time i get a full r4 deck, or at least 15-20 of them, they'll be compleletely underpowered against r5 a2s, and my collectives are sitting at level 12 rn, which will mean comparatively against the same opponents and champs at the same rank, I'll be fighting 12 percent more HP. Collectives have completely screwed smaller accounts, and this is a gap that I can not overcome.
