What just happened here?

I realize there’s a LOT of things going on right now, and a vast majority of the playerbase is upset.
But one thing is sticking out to me.
Crashed yesterday said it would be too resource intensive and not worth the time to clawback the small amount of players that took advantage of the pricing because it did not disrupt the competitive environment.
Fast forward to today, they ID’d players who didn’t take advantage, (a much LARGER data set), and in less than a day from his post procured a compensation package that was tailored to each account’s spending, which made the competitive environment WORSE for the FTP or those that didn’t buy anything.
Now, I may be just a layman, but was Crashed lying or was he thrown under the bus or…?
Kabam HQ, it really seems like it’s either a disorganized mess in there, or just an evil money hungry place.
I just want a game that functions properly like it should with a dev team I can trust and count on to fulfill promises.
And right now I have really none of that here.

I’m not going to say this as fact because I simply have no clue their inner workings our what kabam discussed. But if I were to guess the compensation had nothing to do with the cheap deals despite them saying that.That compensation could’ve already laid out when people were locked out of certain deals. And they had the opportunity to tack the other issue onto the compensation saying thats what it’s for without changing the compensation value. It is a bit hard to believe in 24 hours that Crash’s position would pull a full 180 and they would be able to distinguish the compensation needed for that situation.

Again I want to be very clear. This is just a theory and they definitely could’ve flipped a 180 and added comp based on that situation. I just think its unlikely. The reality is we have no clue what was said behind kabam’s doors unless they directly tell us.

So for the sake of having some hope in the kabam team I’m going to go off what they said happened. And that they added comp based on the cheap unit deals AND locked tiers.

This comp package is an easier build and implementation than a clawback. Think of Shuri trying to remove the mind stone from Vision vs Thanos just ripping it out of his head. But none of this has to do with FTP. Units are a FTP currency and many players that spent units (which is the basis of the comp) are FTP.

One hole in that theory is that… why would the locked out players get something? They lost… 3 days of not being able to purchase, but still have plenty of time to catch up. They are out nothing on that issue in a vacuum. I don’t think it was for them…

I think it’s clear all the anecdotal evidences that were showing up here and in YouTuber livestreams (it wasn’t just paragon and a few new valiants… and it was widespread) made the infallible “data” prove to be …. Fallible.

So Kabam looking for an off ramp, sees an opportunity for a meek mea culpa and “hey spend more to get extra stuff!” They just take the community for granted. From “life’s not fair” to claiming this is “comparable value” others got…. It’s just embarrassing.

As I said in another thread, sometimes in your job you are sent out with a bad message you don’t like, but you got to deliver it. So I’m not ascribing motives to individuals who are attached to the comments… but Kabam HQ thinks we’re stupid and with some tough love or flowery words can gloss over this. It’s embarrassingly shallow and just breeds distrust all the way down to the ground…. Even to the point of questioning just how widespread this really was. You lose trust, the questions start on all aspects.

Another point I want to make is the compensation itself doesn’t make much sense. The compensation is all rng because its only crystals. Youd figure the idea of compensation is that everyone would get equal resources. Crystals aren't equal because the champs you pull aren’t. I would think rankup mats would be the way to go. And we have had crystals in compensation in the past but usually they were either due to crystal related issues or the crystals we got were tacked on with guaranteed valued resources. Kabam puts a certain value on things and then determines that value is equal to what summoners went through. But crystals are too up and down to have a specific value in this situation. One summoner might get what he wanted. And another might get what he hates.

no doubt they mentioned it, I just think given Kabam, if that was the only issue, the rewards we see wouldn’t be there. Unless i am misunderstanding, I thought you were making the case that they would be there and they just tacked on the other stuff for price bug.

anyway, you may be right, I may be wrong. Either way, it all comes down this comp is a bad joke.

I definitely would not be buying the cumulative comp rewards for 19,000 units. And yet “ it’s comparable”. Really? Put that offer in a login splash screen. See how many people buy it. Then subtract those summoners who buy everything… and see who really bought it.

Like i said, they think we are stupid and treat us as such.

They can't claw back the items sold because of legal issues. It's like when you go to a store and they have the wrong price on something. They have to sell it to you at that price. That's fine with me, I'm happy for the ones who were able to buy at the lower price. However, the compensation definitely doesn't compare to what they were able to receive.

If it was in fact a legal issue, that still causes multiple problems with how they responded.

I still don’t believe the stuff about ‘competitive environment’, thats right out the window and was a dishonest statement in my opinion as the rich are currently getting mildly richer, and the non spenders/unit savers have an even wider gap they will never close.

This also sends the direct message that you will get away with buying deals that are Mia priced without consequence. Not a good and ‘fair’ ideal. And when this happens again, you can bet I’m gonna take advantage as much as I can.

When your explaination is the alledged truth but mixed in with buzzword buzzword buzzword, you’re not being straight, you’re being a shady salesman, and I can’t buy it.

Read the ToS. They can undo whatever they want. You don't own what you purchase, they do. You just pay to access it.

Oh I agree, bro. It's definitely about the money, otherwise they would give units back or make the deals available to everyone at the lower price (which they would still make money off of and should do).
