What is Prestige and how to calculate it?

I have tried PrestigeCalc 4.1 and the prestige calculator at mbch.guide but I ran into errors for certain champs. I don't get what this "Prestige" is either. Can someone explain to me this concept and why is it needed.

    @AcuTarA it's the average pi of your top 5 champs without masteries. The amount of points your alliance can score in AQ is directly related to alliance prestige so many alliances require certain prestige levels to join. The calculators do work, or if you drop all your masteries you can just average your top five champs.
