First way is that you have to level up to summoner level 17 and join every alliance war.if your alliance wins you get 200 shards , if lose you get 100.
The second way is that join and explore every special event quest at normal or heroic difficulty if you can.
Third way is that if you have many 3 star heroes go to arena and join 3 - 4 star arenas and reach ranked rewards . I think this will be useful.

What did you think the target audience was exactly?
The fastest way of getting 4 star shards is duping 3 stars. So try to max 3 stars faster by applying signature stones. As a general recommendation, put signature stones on the champs that have the higher sig levels, as it means, you are duping those champs the most, and therefore, you can reach the max sig level faster and will get those extra shards every time you dupe them.
3 stars are easier to max than 2 stars, but also do the same with 2 stars as they will help you dupe 3 stars as well.
And never sell a champion (even if it gives shards to do so).
