Mastery Math

Does anyone else wonder why there is a mastery that gives you a 1% chance to perform a perfect block? Or increases it by 1%, whatever. Also the block proficiency maxed out is a whopping 8%. Are we supposed to take these numbers literally? Why can't Kabam be transparent about these things? Increasing the odds of some event happening by 4% is not even worth one mastery point, nevermind four of them. I've heard that the numbers shouldn't be taken literally and that the mastery is worth maxing, but if that's the case why doesn't Kabam use math that accurately reflects the situation? See, in my opinion when Kabam allows people to spend money on their game it means they have crossed a line. They now need to treat things like a gambling site, where everything needs to be immaculately run and defined and no mysteries. So, with all that in mind, any opinions on these masteries or any other ridiculous Kabam math?

A company can do whatever they would like, within reason, and for platforms like this, its up to the consumer to not spend, to force them to be transparent/open.

That being said, it's usually such low percentages because its not that block proficiency ends up at 8%, but that the CHAMPION'S block proficiency increases by 8%. they have a base attribute you're buffing.

the increase of 8% is not worth the number of mastery points it takes. The mastery needs to be fixed in that regard. If you want to take Kabam's side on anything then you must work for them, because they are not too highly regarded in any of the alliances I know people in.

I'm not saying I am taking their side, but you are making a great leap to gambling, by the way has been discussed at length on this forum.

To me it just didn't sound like you fully understood the chance for it to happen. I wanted to help you, and I didn't disagree mastery points COULD be more useful elsewhere.

Some of them link with champs abilities. E.g. stun duration and chance for perfect block. So having a few points in it can extend that stun duration effectively allowing you to do 2 combos for each parry. (One short and then one set of 5). This is pretty useful.

Plus a lot of people only fill parts of the defence tree to unlock a point in willpower.

I agree that these might seem like small gains but thats why there is so much choice for mastery setup.

I prefer the % ones to the points one as it less clear ehat that means in practice. I know 4% means that on average it will happen 4 times in 100 hits, but +67 armour rating... not sure how i am supposed to calculate how effective that is.

agreed, the points don't mean much. and the whole purpose of switching to points apparently was to be more transparent? If I remember their logic. Which of course contains none.

Thanks for bringing up the stun duration. I'm looking for people to post things useful within this subject, so keep em coming.

AQ is now so hard, even with just map 3 if you're in advanced, so I am trying to unlock some of these mysteries to make my champs better. Thanks for your post.

also, I am very tender on the subject of Kabam and how much I think they are screwing the people who put them in a very good position. The game cheats, I have experienced it, and lots of people complain about glitches. So, I apologize for being snippy and I will try to grow a thicker skin. But please do keep those posts coming. Thanks to the two people contributing so far to this new thread.

And note above I said mysteries and not masteries. I think the game is purposefully described in vague terms, which is fine until money is spent. Then we need clarity!

@Daemian who are some of your top champs? sometimes some champs do better with certain masteries.

The points are a result of diminishing returns, where for some (most?) masteries, the last level doesn't do as much as the first. Essentially, let's say 1 point does +10. Well the second level's result wouldnt be +20, it would actually be something like +19.

I have read recently about the diminishing returns, and it has lead me to rethink my masteries, which was what prompted me to start asking these questions.....
It seems that unless you play for hours every day it's impossible to generate enough resources to get better. And yes it takes resources to get better, because the controls are so basic that there is very little strategy in the game. It becomes clear that spending will make the game more fun, and that is where Kabam is being greedy. And I understand why, I just think they aren't rewarding us enough.

As far as my champs, I'd love to post them but I will refrain from boring people with them. I'll just listen for a while longer first. Anyway I have to get back to work!!

It's tough for me to recommend most strategies for masteries then. There are builds even as specific for different game modes, whether you grind arena or stick to alliance events. Bleeders, get deep wounds. Several mystics, get MD. etc

The few masteries lately that people are upset about are pure skill and the scouting lens. Pure skill (IF you want it) is really only useful 2-3 levels. and the scouting lens is useless in war now, where people used to always run it.

Its generally accepted willpower isnt worth more than one level unless you run suicides. Its debated whether or not 1 point is even worth it without suicides.

I see a lot of people load up attack masteries. For the most part, if you're a ninja and don't get hit, not many defensive masteries apply anyway.

yeah I recently removed all my defensive masteries to see what the effect would be. I don't really have a description of my game playing. I'm in an alliance that tries to run 5-5-5-5-5 because I like the rewards, but lately that has been exceptionally difficult. I like event quest and I like arena in theory but I never have the ability or interest to play for hours a day. I can't generate much in terms of resources through arena, so I don't have the suicides active. I do have MD 5/5, which allows me to place mystics in miniboss and boss nodes. At this point i'm playing because I like the champs and the stats. If I could just play without even being in an alliance I would, but the rewards are pitiful in that situation.

@Daemian I've seen that complaint a lot about solo players not having access to stuff. Who are your favorite 2-3 champs to attack with? (any game mode, maybe specifically AQ if you feel you need help with that)

well since I have deep wounds maxed I like the only 5/4/55 I have, who happens to be drax. I also like my 4/5/50 x23. Besides those 2 i use vision for his power level manipulation and SW because she is the only way to cheat back against kabam....

Here's another question you may be able to answer @Primmer79 ....
occasionally I will be fighting someone in arena and their champion is receiving like 35 or 40 health twice per second from somewhere. You can see it ticking off in green. Salve, in masteries, only gives max 8 per second for one minute, and the stupid recovery mastery claims to give an additional 15% max onto that, which would be worth approximately nothing unless you're a 2 star champ. So A) who uses these masteries and

how do some opponents get such big per second health boosts during fights? And ultimately why do you suppose kabam chooses to make things so vague?

Salve max- 4.0 health twice per second for one minute
Recovery max - increase ANY health your champions recover by 15%
Willpower - Not sure on max, mine is at 1 and its 0.5% health per second per debuff.
Willpower will increase if they're running suicides, and recovery applies to it.

Coincidentally, this is what I am running currently. Testing it, I am starting the fight recovering 5 health per tick (a tick is every half second.) Which makes sense, depending on their rounding method.

If you're seeing 40-50 itll be due to the interaction of willpower, debuffs, or a champion's ability

but 40-50 is huge. I expect it for a regen champ but this was hulkbuster. I guess if he was a jacked 5 star then 40-50 probably represented a miniscule portion of his health. Damn game!!

No problem, Willpower regen increses for every individual stack of debuff, that includes suicides, that includes armor break, that includes weakness.
