Alliance War Matchmaking Help

Was there a change to the way AW selects matches? Our alliance which was gold 1 started a new ally with 10 members and we have now had 3 wars that have produced equally skilled teams (good players who also started a new ally) to us yet we are in the stone tier. I don’t think that this is right as we are now playing gold 1 teams that are preventing us from moving up the AW tiers.
