Regular or featured 5* crystal

My friend had enough shards for his first 5*! Should he save it for a featured or go to a regular?

As its his first a basic 5* would be the better option

Less chance of trash champions in the basic one

I tried for feature got iron fist b4 and now ip. So now I went to basics. Pulled xbones void n gulk from last 3 basics pulls
