Thing’s Passive Fury Activates Spite?

I thought thing’s furies weren’t buffs, but passive effects. If that’s the case then how does it cause spite to occur on the Dormammu mini boss in AQ map 6?

    Is there any chance you launched an L1 with 15+ rock stacks? If so, Thing will gain an unblockable buff that will trigger Spite.
