Champs won't block during auto fight

Apologies if this has been answered but didn't find it when searching...
Is it intentional that champs no longer block when using auto fight? The opponent blocks just fine but our champs just stand there and take a beating. Sure they will dash back on occasion but they don't ever block. So that eliminates the chance of parry and damage reduction. Seem to remember our champs used to block during auto, so it just doesn't make sense that blocking is gone now. Been this way a while just finally bugged me enough to inquire about it.
