Alliance War Season 19: Updates to Path Identities and New Nodes! [ June 30]

Summoners,

After his defeat at the hands of the Summoner and Carina, the Grandmaster has been an elder without a calling. Despite the problems and conflicts that the Grandmaster and The Collector have caused, they are still Carina’s family, and she loves them very much.

Instead of banishing them to a far off land, she’s worked with her council to create a plan to keep the two of them busy, and out of trouble.

The Universal Gamesman

Carina knows that a game with changing rulesets and unpredictable pieces is the perfect distraction to keep En Dwi Gast out of trouble. Under her supervision, The Grandmaster will transform Alliance Wars into his tournament, where he seeks the strongest Alliances every season to crown as his victors!

Recreating the Battlefield

The Grandmaster has never been shy about wanting to mould the Contest to his vision, and making sure his presence is noticed. He’ll be starting with the Maps on which you fight.

So first, we’re going to take a look at the new Nodes, Path Identities, and Layouts of the Grandmaster’s New Maps. All Map Changes will take effect on June 24th!

New Maps

First, we've got 2 Brand New Maps! One for Alliances playing on Easy and Normal, and one for Alliances playing on Intermediate, Hard, Challenger, and Expert. If you'd like to take a closer look, we've attached the High-Resolution versions of these maps to this post.

These new more simplified Maps eliminate Portals and bring the entire Battlegroup back together and key points throughout the Map.

New Local Nodes

The Grandmaster has crafted the following nodes for Alliances on the Intermediate, Hard, Challenger, or Expert Maps.

Path Identities

If you like to plan ahead, the Grandmaster is happy to provide you with a list of all buffs on all nodes across the Maps. There are lots to look at, so we've attached the lists of Nodes in the next post.

Matchmaking Updates

The Grandmaster wants to ensure that his tournament stays as competitive as possible. To do so, he is updating the parameters of Matchmaking. Matchmaking will now emphasize your Alliance's War Rating above all else. This will ensure that Alliances vying for the crown will be competing against other top Alliances.

This will be a big adjustment for a lot of Alliances. Currently, many Alliances are either have an inflated War Rating or a Deflated War rating due to the current system. To expedite the process of Alliances finding their "true" War Rating, we will be reducing every Alliance's War Rating by 50%. This will affect every Alliance in-game and will accelerate the rate at which Alliance's find their true position faster because of the concentrated War Ratings of all Alliances.

The Change to Matchmaking and the War Rating reduction will occur on July 8th.

It is pretty safe to say no one is really benefiting much from what is announced here. Trust me, the top will have to earn the pittance of increased rewards. This is more of the same, if kabam heard our concerns, they have a real funny way of showing it

Run in a Plat 4 alliance and from what I can see there is a pathetic increase to the rewards. I'd be understanding if they had made some significant changes to AW to breath life back into a STALE GAME MODE, but it seems like it'll continue to be an unfulfilling experience. Rogue choice to announce this as your first change to the game. Everyone will likely be more critical with the changes you announce later this week Kabam.

it will all come down to what they do with tactics. if they simply run Flow at us again then just screw it. i REALLY hope the answer is not to just add more tactics and give Flow to attackers because that will do nothing. it will STILL be Flow Wars. and i'm honestly just really not excited about another season of control defenders.

The rewards update is such a massive disappointment. They only made updates to the rewards that the whales would be getting, which is the masters bracket. It is very disappointing that in 2020, Kabam still doesn't know that the whales, which are less than 1% of the playerbase, aren't the only players in the game and that there are more players that need updates to rewards. It's really, really sad that they never learn.

Where are any improvements to the boosting and potion systems? Boosts will still be highly needed if you plan on competing for these new rewards (which are mainly located in Master/high Plat). Also incredibly frustrating to spend thousands of Glory on potions just to heal block damage.

Get rid of defensive tactics, it benefits no one. The "feedback that you are always reading and paying attention to" has been loud and clear on this issue. No one likes it, remove it from the game.

Rewards quantum is a different discussion but you can't compare Masters top spot to Gold 1. In order to have a perfect season in Master, people spend about on average 5k+ units on potions and boosts. In order to have a perfect season in Gold 1, you just need to know your basic skills.

...if the plan is new treats for the lowest end Summoners (to get them playing AW) and better treats for the upmost Summoners (to encourage their playing and spending on AW), this doesn’t bode well as a direction for the rest of the announcements for a large number of players.

Feels like we’ve seen this one before. Hope I am wrong.

Literally all they had to do was get rid of defensive tactics, extend attack timer and give a generous buff to rewards for ALL levels not just those that are in the top tier. That's all most of us wanted and they couldn't even give 2 out of 3 to 90% of the players.

For the time commitment and locking my champs up in war for a month, I’m almost better placed to just join an AQ focussed alliance and just skip war completely.

The changes to war mechanics seem arbitrary but considerate, the 5 minute timer is cool but I can’t remember the last time I timed out in war and it fed into the tactics of picking a boss killer for that particular boss. The rewards changes are pitiful. I’m in a p4 alliance and we’re seeing such a small change to rewards given the speed the game is advancing. 2% t5cc is horrible, 4 years to get a t5cc if you pull the same class each season 😂.

I’m hoping this is one of those moments that we are heard and some significant changes are made. I WANT to play war, but I’m hardly motivated for 1.5 five star (which are a dime a dozen nowadays) and half a 6 star (joe fixit anyone?).

Hoping for a swift amendment to this notice.

Personally I hope all the spenders boycott. This is an obvious cash grab designed as a player benefit. That’s why there was no significant increase in rewards for plat 4 and below. Kabam wants to lock the spenders into the upper tiers so they can spend spend spend for those t5CC. The pay wall starts at plat3 now people

I should know better than to get my hopes up by now. This is truly disappointing and why I am in my own alliance with my 2 accounts. I get 1750 glory per week running Map 2 and don’t have to worry about the time suck and disappointing rewards of AW.

Wow. Double 6star shards and increase 5 star Shards for Master/Plat And do pretty much nothing for Gold and below? Straight BS.

The new meta will be 100% Stubborn.
And it will be a clown fiesta like with Flow. This node is way overpowered and makes the 2 best champs almost useless (Quake and Ghost)

You will not be allowed to dex a Special or you will need to block 3 hits to be able to do damage again. This is unfun and Flow 2.0

For the stubborn tactic, a simple way to reign it back a bit. Remove dodged as one of its activators. It's ok to leave miss and evade as stubborn activators as it is, but remove dodged so that our dexterities do not trigger stubborn as well.

I would like at this time to point out that part do the road map to the road map of road maps implied communication, aw announcement number 1 has been out for a bit, number 2 just dropped. Plenty of feedback, not much communication.

Another thing I have to say is that shouldn't the solo event currently for cavalier and uncollected players be for conquerer players instead? 1k 5* shards after a whole month is like a 2016 reward lol, it's something conquerer players need. Uncollected and cavalier players should have a whole other solo event with way better rewards. 3 star crystals really aren't doing anything for us lol.

As a member of a Gold 2 Alliance, I hate that they made zero changes to the crystal shards. I mean war is supposed to be a place to earn them. We already get rankup materials from AQ. It was better if you didn't change anything.
