The Champions Roadmap. Quality over Quantity?

Alright, the roadmap most have been waiting on. It’s shorter than the rest, but this one is definitely quality over quantity. Let’s get right into it. No time to waste, got to get back to EQ.

Unfortunately, it takes about half a page scroll down to get anything. But 2 things that are worth mentioning before we reach the balancing section is the greater use of pre-fight and cross-fight abilities. This is nice I guess, really it depends on how good the champ is. Secondly, it sounds we have values being attached to every ability. Let’s be honest, this long overdue. We’ll finally know the chance that Black Bolt has to proc a buff. Whoop De-freakin-do.

They also mention a clear set of rules for the game. I’m hoping this means we’re finally going to get an in-game explanation of how abilities work and interact. For example, what’s a passive effect, an active buff, a passive buff, an active effect, an effect, a buff, what is life? Also hoping for champs reach and dash back distance to finally be listed somewhere.

Now we move onto our first substantial section.

Balancing:

First off, buffing underpowered champions is great, but first, let’s address the nerf situation.

Oh God.

Let’s hope that this is at least reserved for new champions and champs like Ghost and Quake won’t be touched. Sounds like it might. It also needs to be communicated much better than last time as that was a complete ***show and the tone of this paragraph shows they know that.

So don’t repeat it. It’s that simple. Tell us what’s going, what you are planning to look at, and the compensation plan from the get-go.

With that out the way, let’s move onto the really exciting stuff. The buff Roadmap.

Buff Roadmap:

First off, glad to see mediocre champions are being looked at as well as the god awful ones. My duped 6* Punisher 2099 is giving me a smirk right now. Just a smirk, he’s too much of a ‘hard man’ to actually smile.

Seems like there is a good timeline on this, especially into 2021. Glad we have a strike team on this, it’s long, long, long overdue.

As I’ve already alluded to, I’m very happy to see Punisher 2099 getting a tune-up. Gambit and Falcon are good targets for updates. Part of me thinks they might need an overhaul, but at least it seems clear they have a plan. My 6* Gambit is also very happy. As for more Community Choice Polls...honestly, I would rather they were just scrapped and we got it pushed out sooner. Maybe I’m in the minority there, but it's not quite got the excitement an election has is it. (I study Politics, don’t kill me)

And thank God, both Magneto’s are getting buffed. If Dave’s tease is anything to go by, get excited. Because it’s supposed to be good. White Magneto sounds like he’s going to be synergy monster which is exciting. Always down for more OP synergies. Can’t believe I’m actually hoping to pull a 5* or 6* Magneto now. How times change.

As for the champion tease… (Spoilers for the EQ cutscene ahead)

Professor X obviously. And I’m hoping against hope the other one is apocalypse. Sounds like September is going to be a damn good mutant month. And a month in general. The Cavalier difficulty, Help all, etc. August looks like more Herald action. Here’s hoping for Cosmic Ghost Rider.

Crystal Update:

Glad to see every champion is coming to the basic pool. Not many of them are particularly viable anymore, but hopefully, the buff roadmap will fix that. Now, the dual-class crystals.

This is great. I can’t put it any other way. Would I have liked to have seen just one class per day and the regular basic on a Sunday? Of course. But this is an alright compromise. After I open a few more features, I’m going to be spamming the Science/Mystic Crystals to maybe get a 5* Quake, who I have been waiting on forever. Here’s a breakdown of the number of champs in each crystal: It includes all champs released but not rare ones like Wolverine. Might want to double-check my maths.

Science/Mystic - 48
Skill/Mutant - 55
Tech/Cosmic - 53

Thanks Auntm.ai.

As for improved featured crystals, if this new is anything to go by, this is going to be good. This new one is excellent and is well worth the investment. Still waiting on Quake to be in another one, not been in since 2018, just saying Kabam. Please?

As for the wish crystal, this sounds like a nerfed featured 5*. 1/30 is still good for this game, but throw in 3*s, 4*s, it’s still a 0.4% chance to get the champion you want as a 5*. If my maths is correct, feel free to correct me if I’m not. I’m also unsure whether these are going to be special rewards, unit-based, shard crystals. Could just be something we tag onto other crystals, I don’t know. It’s sort of exciting, more in concept than the reality I think.

Signature Stones:

This is a disappointing section. All we were really told was: “Yeah, we’re adding 5-star sigs into solo events. Also, we might give you more. We don’t know about 6* stones though.”

I’m glad to hear about the solo event update, it is so long overdue I thought it was never coming. Just don’t take my units and 20% revive. Doing that will piss off the community no end, don’t do it. Just don’t. But I’m glad to see this is coming soon.

In saying that, the prelude promised us a ‘revamp’ of sig stones. Um. I don’t know if the word means the same thing in Scotland as it does in Canada, but this ain’t no revamp. I wish I had more to say on this, but there really isn’t anything else which is disappointing. Just need to hope the EQ and side events start to give out more I guess, although this month isn’t exactly a shining example of this.

Outro:

That’s it. Surprisingly short, but definitely the most exciting of the roadmaps thus far. I like a lot of it, sig stones were a letdown. Sounds we have some more related to this coming in our last roadmap. But for now, I don’t think there is much else to say on this. Pretty self-explanatory and generally pretty positive.

Might be worth starting to hoard shards for the class crystals unless you are going featured.

Yes, I know it’s unhealthy Miike. But damn it, this is what must be done.

I wonder if he’s told Cyclops he needs to be buffed yet...

With the whole “nerf” thing mr Kabam Miike said that it’s only if a champ has a stupidly OP bug then they will nerf the character they won’t just blindly nerf characters anymore it seems :)

    Phew, that’s reassuring.

The sig stones offer 30+ crystals and 30+ generics per month, a little less if you don’t count event completion 22 hr. They’re also adding a higher tier solo crystal that will probably have 5 star stones. Seems like a decent boost, they can’t just start handing sig stones out by the 100s every month.

    The emancipation proclamation was shorter.

almost everything is longer than that. The emancipation proclamation was one page, and it took Lincoln around 2 minutes to read.
