If u tap the boss node once the defenders disappear from the paths a lot of times. It's always worked for me when I've had a problem.

It used to bother me and it could be avoided but after I figured out you could just tap another node it's no big deal.

Other than that, the two suggested ways also working fine:
1. Zoom in zoom out and touch;
2. Tap a boss or node nearby, then the guy picture in front of your next move will disappear

part of the problem is, it is difficult for all maps to layout the same. This game is played on thousands of different devices.
Nodes that get "hidden" on my iPad might not be "hidden" on my iPhone and vice versa, and those are technically the same OS.
