Why nuts? 20k units mean 4000 units each path it's cheap. You can't expect more than that even with Doom and Aegon.

20k units isn't that much more than what most people are needing... depending on stash..
I'm just a little under 10k units used with 3 paths done.. I have most of the optimal team other than torch..
I would say i'm about average or on the lower side of an average player..

20K units is really impressive, at least to me. I have Doom and Ægon and I dropped between 26-30K to explore (honestly don’t remember).

Yup. 20k units without Aegon or Doom is really good.

I did my first path (easy path) without any of the horsemen at 6k units. Second path (which was path 5) was with HT as my only horsemen for 6k units.

Did my third path a few weeks back (Path 2) with Aegon HT Doom VtD SH at 2.6k units. Then fourth path (Path 3) a few days back with Aegon HT Doom Warlock Elsa at 1.2k units.

It gets really expensive without Aegon, especially for the Collector.

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. If you don’t farm potions prior to going in, it takes about 5000 units a path. With Aegon. So 4000 units a path without doom or Aegon is insane.
