Horseman ability doesn't always work? Can someone help?

I got 4 codes, went into the fight with Apocolypse, enabled it, won the fight. The next fight, i used Wolverine, but the Horseman didn't activate.... should it have and should it last the rest of the fight on all or just this mutant?

You have to enable it and then enter with another mutant not apocalypse
